canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

9JKL: Cancelled by CBS; No Second Season for Monday Night Sitcom

by Cindy McLennan, April 20, 2018

9JKL TV show on CBS: canceled, no season 2 (canceled or renewed?)

(Cliff Lipson / CBS)

Looks like Josh is getting evicted. CBS has cancelled its 9JKL TV show, after just one season. In November, the Tiffany Network ordered three additional scripts and subsequently the full episodes, but it seems that’s where the good news ends. It is “effectively cancelled,” according to THR, although the news outlet didn’t bother with any qualifiers in its tweet on the 9JKL cancellation.

A CBS sitcom, 9JKL stars Mark Feuerstein, David Walton, Elliott Gould, Linda Lavin, Liza Lapira, Matt Murray, and Albert Tsai. From creators Dana Klein and Feuerstein — a married couple — this sitcom is loosely inspired by the time they spent living next door to Feuerstein’s family. It centers on newly divorced actor, Josh Roberts (Feuerstein), who moves from LA, back to New York City, to an apartment between those of his parents, Harry and Judy (Gould and Lavin) and his brother Andrew (Walton) and sister-in-law Eve (Lapira).

#LivingBiblically becomes CBS' latest freshman comedy to get the ax – 'Me, Myself and I' and '9JKL' have also been canceled https://t.co/LsEsJqbw8C

9JKL: A Look at the Ratings

The first season of 9JKL averaged a 0.96 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.29 million viewers. When we sort the 25 scripted CBS TV shows we’re tracking by the demo, 9JKL currently ranks 15th, but drops to 20th place in terms of average total viewers.

CBS Comedies Considered Cancelled

As referenced in the tweet above, yesterday, CBS pulled Living Biblically from the schedule, and it seems to be cancelled, too. Meanwhile, Me, Myself and I has been considered over since early November of 2017.

What do you think? Did you watch the first season of the 9JKL TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two on CBS?

What a dumb move !! (JKL was probably the best sitcom to come along in quite a while. Hope CBS can deal with reduced viewership !

’m convinced nothing can compete against the voice (and AI / DWTS) in the Monday 9:30 cbs slot. Let’s review this seasons cbs 9:30pm slot; MMI was easily the most original new comedy and it was pulled, 9jkl was fractional, MWAP tried it with a repeat and was fractional, LB fractional. 9jkl, LB, MMI fates were sealed the day cbs scheduling execs placed them at 9:30pm on Monday (as I think we’ll see next week when even TBBT reruns at 9:30pm goes fractional)

So very sorry to see 9JKL cancelled. We enjoyed the dialogue and the quality actors. Certainly it offered a different spin on modern family life.

And furthermore, David Walton, not Matt Murray, played Josh’s brother, Andrew, who was married to Eve (Liza Lapira)! Murray played Nick, the desk clerk! Edit this post about “9JKL”, please! Thank you!

Hey, no fair, CBS! You weren’t supposed to cancel this show the way you cancelled its replacement, “Living Biblically”! This show in my opinion needs a second chance!

Another funny show cancelled. 9jkl definitely deserves another season to prove themselves.

I watched because I like some of the actors but it was cringe worthy. So many stereotypes it would be hard to list. The premise of this “overly” loving & concerned family was actually just disrespectful. It won’t be missed.
