Fans of CBS’ long-running Elementary TV show just got an early present from the network. Though just two episodes from season six have aired (and the ratings have not been good), CBS has renewed the beloved series for a seventh season.
A detective drama based on the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters, Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. The cast also includes Aidan Quinn as Captain Thomas Gregson and Jon Michael Hill as Detective Marcus Bell, with Desmond Harrington in the role of Michael. This updated take on the detective story centers on Holmes and Watson, as they help the NYPD investigate the trickiest crimes in New York City.
Elementary: A Look at the Ratings
The ratings for this series have been coming down each year and, thus far, season six of Elementary is no exception. It’s currently averaging a meager 0.60 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.66 million viewers. Compared to season five, that’s down by 6% and 3%, respectively. So, why was Elementary renewed for another round? CBS Television Studios co-produces the series so the company gets the lion’s share of the profits from syndication. They have added incentive to add more episodes to the syndication package. Word is that the show also does well internationally. Deadline reports that season seven may be the final year but there’s been no official word from CBS yet.
CBS Cancellations and Renewals
All told, today CBS renewed six TV shows: Criminal Minds (season 14); Man With a Plan (season three); Life in Pieces (season four); Instinct (season two); Big Brother: Celebrity Edition (season two); and Elementary (season seven). The network also cancelled three series: Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts and Scorpion.

We love Elementary! It’s well written, got a great cast and it would be a complete loss for TV to lose such a wonderful show. The chemistry between Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Lui, you just can’t find that very often, it’s rare and genuine. Help keep this show alive!!

Love this show. My husband, who is very tough on rating and watching shows, loves this show. It is his favorite also. We are older and love the challenge of waiting to see what Sherlock comes up with to solve some zany cases. Figured young people can’t handle the sometimes complex situations and puzzling pieced solving.
Elementary is my favorite show. It should definitely continue.
Love this series, my personal favorite. The plots are engaging, imaginative and tho’ sometimes wild, still possible, often dealing with current issues and economics. The characters are well cast, (especially Sherlock) always developing, believable and enjoyable along with their personal, current day problems and issues. There are lots of interesting facts and trivia hidden in the pursuit of clues, (careful, you may learn something) and well researched motives and villains. The plots keep you guessing and the characters keep you coming back.
It appeared to be a series finale taking Sherlock and Watson to London but hoping show returns. I think its time slot following Monday Night Football hurt its ratings .especially if game runs over and it almost always does. I have to record the 11 oclock news too in order to see end of each episode. Think relocating to London might be good change. If not, they can have captains daughter eventually confess and bring S&J back to USA with regular cast. She wasn’t a main character anyway. Also hope S&J don’t get romantically involved. Unless its series finale.
Love this show. I did like the ending and the move to England but cannot see these two as lovers. They love each other as family although Sherlock does seem a bit jealous. Will continue to watch. Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu have a great chemistry.

This show is the best. I will watch every episode. Love the characters and how they interact. I was wishing for a Sherlock & Joan romance. That way Morland could get the grandchild he wants. But we will have to see what the writers come up with. An all around good show with many twists and turns, just what a detective show should be. Love it!

I have enjoyed Elementary since it started. I know the demographics are for younger audiences , but: What about those older ones that pay right along with the others. Help save some shows for us that are decent.
