Earlier this month, we reported that production on season nine of the Home & Family morning program would resume on March 29th. Now, it’s been revealed that the Hallmark Channel lifestyle series will end this year and won’t have a 10th season.
The series began in 1996 as The Home and Family Show on The Family Channel (a predecessor to Fox Family Channel, ABC Family, and the current Freeform channel) and was hosted by Cristina Ferrare, Michael Burger, and Chuck Woolery. The latter left in 1996 and the series ran until 1998.
The show was rebooted in 2012 on Hallmark Channel. Mark Steines and Paige Davis co-hosted the new version but Davis left after six weeks and was replaced by Ferrare, a host of the original iteration. In 2016, Ferrare was dropped and replaced by Debbie Matenopoulos. Then, Steines was replaced by Cameron Mathison in 2018.
In addition to celebrity interviews, Home & Family episodes typically include lifestyle and craft segments. Contributors have included Kym Douglas, Orly Shani, Ken Wingard, Shirley Bovshow, Lawrence Zarian, Paige Hemmis, Ali Fedotowsky, Larissa Wohl, Maria Provenzano, and Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Prior to the pandemic, the Hallmark series aired for two hours on weekdays. Due to COVID-19, production shut down in March 2020 but resumed in September. Filming ceased again in December and production is expected to resume next week. Episodes will begin airing on April 5th with a one-hour, three-day-a-week schedule. The series finale will air on August 4th.
A statement about the Home & Family cancellation was released by Hallmark, per Variety.
The ninth and current season of Home & Family will be the series’ last. For nearly a decade, the show has anchored our daytime lineup, featuring countless hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining, and decorating segments. We want to thank the heart and soul of the show, our incredibly talented cast and crew — led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison — for their creativity, hard work, and dedication. Our audience can look forward to more of the topical segments they know and love when the show returns on Monday, April 5 with a new one-hour, three-day-a-week format. The program’s final episode airs Wednesday, August 4th.
What do you think? Do you like the Home & Family TV series? Are you sorry to hear that the show’s been cancelled and won’t have a 10th season?
You are now taking off the best show on television. I watched this show every day, Cameron Mathison and Debbie are definitely a pair way better than Kelly and Ryan if you take this show off I will definitely not watch your channel again.
Agreed!
I am very disappointed that Hallmark is canceling the Home and Family show!! I watched it most every day. The show was positive and uplifting. I enjoyed the variety of segments, the cooking, crafts, DIY, etc. I also liked the hosts. Please reconsider your decision to cancel this interesting and entertaining show!!
This is so sad.. I finally had something to watch that was not gore and fowl language.
I am so sorry this show is being canceled. I have been so looking forward to it coming back.
Im tired of all the golden girl shows. I wish they would cut back the amount of shows they show.
I, for one, am glad to be rid of it. It ruined my favorite reruns right in the middle of the morning. Both hosts were “silly” and the segments were boring.
This sucks big time. Kim was my favorite and enjoyed the show everyday. So sad that one of my favorite shows is being canceled.
sad to hear its cancelled, just hope they replace it with something OTHER than golden girls or monk
I’m very sad and disappointed that you are canceling Home and Family, Hallmark. It’s one of the best shows out there. It’s positive ,uplifting and I love really everything about it. Fashion w/ Lawrence, crafts with Ken and Paige. The recipes. All good things come to an end I guess, but right now we can use a little something light to lift our hearts. The world can be so scary sometimes and this was a bright spot in my day. Please reconsider, Hallmark channel.
Use to love this show back when the host were Cristina Ferrara and Mark Steines, watched also every day. Cut way back when Cristina was fired and then cut back even more when Mark left. Somehow the pairing of Debbie and Cameron together never appealed to me,won’t miss it being gone.
I am very disappointed about this decision! Iiked everything about the show. There was actually something on TV that anyone could watch. I loved learning new and creative recipes, crafts, gardening, fashion and pet care. I’m surely going to miss seeing those lovable pets for adoption. Why are all the good programs being canceled? I mean I like Christmas movies at Christmas but not all year round!
So sorry to hear this, what’s to watch now on hallmark channel? I enjoy the movies but also enjoyed stars from movies coming on home and family to promote their movies. What now? Old reruns of old tv shows and some hallmark movies thrown in? Really sad!
I am extremely disappointed with this decision. I fear that the Hallmark Channel is slowly but surely moving away from what made it “watchable” to begin with – shame on you for deserting viewers!
Very disappointed. Ratings were good and one of the few shows I enjoyed. Not a fan of this decision Hallmark.
I am very disappointed. I loved the cooking segments and the entire cast.
I agree! It was a unique concept for this day and time. So many interesting segments and specialist to educate the audience. Poor decision on Hallmarks part. It will be missed.
I am so sad to hear this horrible news! What a great show from the cast to the guests! So well done and no profanity! I will miss this show!
