Earlier this month, we reported that production on season nine of the Home & Family morning program would resume on March 29th. Now, it’s been revealed that the Hallmark Channel lifestyle series will end this year and won’t have a 10th season.
The series began in 1996 as The Home and Family Show on The Family Channel (a predecessor to Fox Family Channel, ABC Family, and the current Freeform channel) and was hosted by Cristina Ferrare, Michael Burger, and Chuck Woolery. The latter left in 1996 and the series ran until 1998.
The show was rebooted in 2012 on Hallmark Channel. Mark Steines and Paige Davis co-hosted the new version but Davis left after six weeks and was replaced by Ferrare, a host of the original iteration. In 2016, Ferrare was dropped and replaced by Debbie Matenopoulos. Then, Steines was replaced by Cameron Mathison in 2018.
In addition to celebrity interviews, Home & Family episodes typically include lifestyle and craft segments. Contributors have included Kym Douglas, Orly Shani, Ken Wingard, Shirley Bovshow, Lawrence Zarian, Paige Hemmis, Ali Fedotowsky, Larissa Wohl, Maria Provenzano, and Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Prior to the pandemic, the Hallmark series aired for two hours on weekdays. Due to COVID-19, production shut down in March 2020 but resumed in September. Filming ceased again in December and production is expected to resume next week. Episodes will begin airing on April 5th with a one-hour, three-day-a-week schedule. The series finale will air on August 4th.
A statement about the Home & Family cancellation was released by Hallmark, per Variety.
The ninth and current season of Home & Family will be the series’ last. For nearly a decade, the show has anchored our daytime lineup, featuring countless hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining, and decorating segments. We want to thank the heart and soul of the show, our incredibly talented cast and crew — led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison — for their creativity, hard work, and dedication. Our audience can look forward to more of the topical segments they know and love when the show returns on Monday, April 5 with a new one-hour, three-day-a-week format. The program’s final episode airs Wednesday, August 4th.
What do you think? Do you like the Home & Family TV series? Are you sorry to hear that the show’s been cancelled and won’t have a 10th season?
Please don’t cancel. Please. We need the creativity and information from this group. I’m so upset after waiting for things to open and see them sgsin
So many people have patiently waited for Home & Family to resume! I cannot believe it is being canceled! If anyone really cares to read these comments the overall consensus is to keep the show!!!
So true!
I have been watching home and family from the beginning it brings joy to me and especially the segment on the animals why take that away from us please reconsider Cameron and Debbie have been excellent And everyone else that’s on the show bring us joy every single day I know that the pandemic has affected everyone but please don’t take away the show that brings us back to life
So sad to hear the show is cancelled. It was my favorite morning show. Not sure I’ll look forward to watching the Hallmark channel in the mornings anymore. 🙁
Please don’t cancel. This is a feel good show. I recorded this show every day so I could watch when I was able to sit down at night to enjoy something before going to bed to get up the next day and start it all over again. I looked forward to seeing everyone and their segments and the fun they had with each other. It’s like having my friends and family in my home at night. Everyone seemed to enjoy each other and it was fun and entertaining to watch them and learn from them. Enjoy the interviews and cooking,… Read more »
I don’t understand how a popular show with a positive attitude, uplifting episodes, great DIY segments, delicious recipes in their cooking segments, wonderful hosts and cohosts could just be discarded in this way? Why isn’t Hallmark being honest why Home and Family is being cancelled to their viewers? It seems as though the upper management who makes these decisions either want the Hallmark Channel to fail or are absolutely the worst at determining what their viewers want. Other channels have awful political discussions that are depressing to watch and listen to and most who watched Home and Family would not… Read more »
I looked forward to watching Home and Family every morning with my cup of coffee and getting ready for work. It is the only show that I can watch and feel positive, happy and cry tears of joy to. I loved all segments of the show and all cast members. I looked forward to this shows come back and to find out it’s being canceled is heartbreaking. Please reconsider.
Couldn’t help but be happy of cancellation
After what they did to Mark Steines. He made
The show and he was treated badly
I loved having the crafts and cooking. Loved am retired and loved the guest. Wish it will be coming back.
I especially enjoyed the dog and cat adoption segments. This was a great, wholesome show. Sad to see it go. Please reconsider. There is so little worthwhile to watch on tv anymore.
I like the home and family show I like all the interviews from the Hallmark movies that they have and I’m loved the animals that Larissa has on her show the adoptions what’s going to happen to all of that
The decision to cancel is very disappointing! There is so much crap on tv and in this world it was nice to be able to tune in and watch something uplifting and good…. not sure why Hallmark had to cancel this show…. not a happy girl right now!
Hate that is being canceled. Watch it daily. Love this show. There is no show on TV like this. It’s a breath of fresh air
Don’t cancel it! It’s fun to watch and I really enjoy watching them. They are good co-hosts and work well together.
So sorry to hear that Home and Family is cancelled. It is my favorite show. At a time when our country needs a “good feeling” show, it is cancelled. I wish that the Hallmark Channel would rethink their decision. Covid 19 has caused many disruptions in our lives. Now that we could see a light at the end of the tunnel, more disappointment with Hallmarks cancellation. So sorry that this will cause unemployment for all involved in the show. God bless everyone.
Sad it is ending. It brought peace and calm watching. Please reconsider.
