Last year, the freshman outing of the Instinct TV show ran on CBS as a mid-season replacement. Although it didn’t do all that well in the Nielsen ratings, it wasn’t cancelled. Now that the procedural is back for a second season, will it thrive and grow its audience as a summer TV series, or die on the vine? Will Instinct be cancelled or renewed for season three? A CBS crime thriller based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD Detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer. Dylan’s old CIA colleague, Julian Cousins (Andrews), lends a hand, along with Lizzie’s C.O., Lt. Jasmine Gooden (Leal). Season two kicks off with Dylan reinstated as NYPD consultant, where he can at turns impress and irritate Lizzie. Meanwhile, Dylan’s husband, Andy (Ings), pursues adoption as a way for the couple to finally become parents.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. For comparisons: The first season of Instinct on CBS averaged a 0.63 rating in the 18-49 year old demographic and 6.664 million total viewers.

Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

18-49 demo important, i guess, but look at 50-65 demo…probably same group watched The Good Wife and The Good Fight. It is a shame to cancel a procedural with such a well-integrated and top-notch cast, interesting story lines and both humor and drama in appropriate measure. All-around brilliant show.

Instinct is a great show and should stay on the air. Amazing stories and interesting characters.
I enjoy the writing and the acting very much. A couple flaws (Hollywoodish drama overreach) in the beginning have not been repeated. Love the mature script of how healthy minded people talk and behave versus the criminal mind warp that is the subject of the Professor’s classes and now consultancy. Just love this show an adult tv snow at last!
Love Instinct. Don’t cancel. All the actors are believable. Good adult drama instead of silly programs. We hunt for this program every week. Could easily watch a rerun.

Please don’t cancel this show. The chemistry on screen is remarkable, fun and we’re always eager to watch. It’s getting so, that with everything being canceled as it is, it’s time just to rent movies.

I love this show. Please don’t break up Julian and Lizzy. She knew what he was before she got involved. Give the poor guy a chance. Don’t even think about Dylan having an affair with anyone.
you turned the great Patterson material into a overplayed chick flick dripping with powerful estrogen filled women putting down stupid wimpy men at every turn. When will you learn you cant TURN WOMEN INTO MEN BECAUSE YOU SAY SO. The opening chase scene would never happen in reality. Mark it, it’s a wrap, unless you go back to reading Patterson and filming what he wrote. He didn’t write wonder woman and glib Murphy Brown but in your obsessed state of “we are women” that what you read.
I definitely love Instinct and all the actors. A lot of fun and interest to watch.Please keep it going and continue to renew.
