Earlier this year, CBS introduced Living Biblically, a sitcom about a man who tried to live his life according to the Bible. It was cancelled after a handful of episodes had aired because of low ratings. Now, the network is looking at faith from another angle with a drama called God Friended Me. Will the drama succeed where the comedy failed? Will God Friended Me be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A drama series airing on CBS, God Friended Me stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie, and Joe Morton. Set in New York City, the series revolves around a thoughtful and outspoken podcaster named Miles(Hall). Miles is an atheist and that puts him at odds with his reverend father (Morton). Miles’ life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from a user named “God”. He eventually accepts and starts digging into his new friend’s account, convinced it’s a hoax. He partners with journalist Cara Bloom (Beane) and gets additional aide from his sister Ali (Leslie) and his hacker pal Rakesh (Sharma). Miles is convinced that the “God” account is an elaborate hoax and is devoted to uncovering the truth. In the meantime, he’s playing along and, in the process, seeing his life changed forever.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. *1/29/19 update: CBS has renewed the God Friended Me TV show for a second season.
It seems that any program having to do with God is cancelled. For example, my family really enjoyed Living Biblically and Kevin Almost Changes the World. I was not surprised that God Friended Me is also on the hit list. Darn it, the American people need a break from all the violence and political talking heads and general secular dumbing down. I believe the network that breaks this trend would eventually do well with a slow start. We’re not talking about smaltzy chick flicks. Our children need to see more examples of Good Orderly Direction, and so do grown=ups.
This is a sweet show that is also touching. This is an example of how I want to live my life and who I want to be in the world. I believe this show has the ability to inspire others to do the same. Please renew this show. Thank you
This is one of the most enjoyable show on TV today. It is fun, funny, touching, heartwarming and introduces some tough real life issues in a sensitive manner. It is wonderful to see diversity in the actors, not the usual cast of characters. It is also nice to see the romantic story lines among a truly diverse group of people, all ages, sexual identities, races and ethnicities. I would love to see this show continue. Its really original and different. this show is positive and encouraging, which is more of what we all need. I really think this show had a lot of potential! Maybe it could use a little more advertising. I hope that this shows continues!

The best show on Tv- Period. It’s about time we had an uplifting show. It’s been a long time. Please renew the show for the second season. I know your looking at the ratings – they have been very steady. I know most shows dont get a answer on renewal until May each year. This needs it 100% !!
