Lodge 49 is not going to return. AMC canceled the series after its second season last month, and the people behind the series fought to find the series a new series. One of the creators of the series threw in the towel on his Twitter account today.
The cast of Lodge 49 includes Wyatt Russell, Brent Jennings, Sonya Cassidy, Linda Emond, David Pasquesi, and Eric Allan Kramer. The creator mentioned them all by name in his message to the fans. During its second season, the series averaged 198,000 viewers per episode.
Jim Gavin said the following in a number of tweets about the AMC series:
“DEAR LYNX, it breaks my heart to announce that LODGE 49 won’t be going forward. We tried very hard to find a new home, but there were no takers. Ratings, metrics, algorithms…que sera, brah. I will write a proper postscript soon, but for now a few thoughts. Re: AMC…Mixed feelings! Even after our cancellation we made just about every major top ten list alongside all the big shows. That’s not easy to do and it makes me so proud. We delivered something special & I think it’s fair to say that we deserved a chance to finish our story. That said, AMC were the ONLY place willing to take a chance on LODGE 49. Creatively, they were amazing, letting us make the show we wanted. It’s a miracle we got two wonderful seasons and I’m forever grateful. I hope the next TV show that focuses on plumbing and hermeticism becomes a ratings smash. But until then! Maybe it’s fitting that a show about a secret society remains a secret. Something people have to search for, or stumble upon, like a ring in the sand. To our amazing fans, thank you for fighting for the show. Your patience, enthusiasm, solidarity, & creativity have meant the world to all of us. We have to accept the exile our knowledge requires, but the lodge is where you take it & the doors are always open. Lynx for life.
Here’s the good news. LODGE 49 is still a thing in the world! We looked at each season as a ten hour movie, to be watched more than once, like all the things we love. I do think there is a sense of wholeness to what we’ve made and I know that will continue to reward viewers. When both seasons land on Hulu in 2020, let’s make a celebration of it. The thing that stings most is not being able to go back to work with our once in a lifetime cast. Wyatt Russell, Brent Jennings, Sonya Cassidy, Linda Emond, Eric Allan Kramer, David Pasquesi. They are the best and their performances will only grow in stature. I will write more about our cast and crew, and all the incredible writers in our room, but for now let me say that the sense of joy and connection in the show reflected the working atmosphere created by all of these kind, brilliant and hilarious people. I love you all.
I want to thank our executive producers Dan Carey and Paul Giamatti, two of the best humans ever. Their love of the show and deep knowledge of all its crazed literary and alchemical underpinnings made all of this so easy and fun. I want to thank our co-ep, @ncjack , gracious and indefatigable, a legendary magician in the world of production. She was the glue that held it all together, and on a daily basis she was willing to lend me her phone charger. The best part of all this was working every day with showrunner, @rockoocko . He’s a comic genius, a master of character and story, but more imporantly he always leads with his heart. The goodness of his soul, and his wish for a better world, were the driving forces of LODGE 49.
Cruelty is weakness. Laughter is a prayer.
Personally, LODGE 49 changed my life. I put everything I know and love into it. Every shit job, every failure, every loss, every hope, every song, every book, every kindness given to me, every little thing that brought me joy. What a privilege. No one should be so lucky. Working on LODGE 49, with so many incredible people, was the greatest honor of my life. I can’t put into words how proud it makes me. We made something beautiful and I know it will stand the test of time. Finally, my greatest hope is that people will continue to find LODGE 49, and when they do I hope that, like Dud, they feel less alone. ‘The greatest thing You’ll ever learn Is just to love And be loved In return’ #lodge49forever”
What do you think? Are you sad that Lodge 49 was not saved? Are you a fan of the AMC series?
This is very disappointing as there aren’t many shows like this. We have enough cop shows, fire department shows and this was one of the few that had a different concept and held our attention. It had a great cast and the main character Dud was just perfect for the part of an out of work surfer dude who stumbles upon the lodge and has the fortitude to still dig deeper into the secrets of Lodge 49. They keep other shows like The Superstore on that is not even the slightest bit funny, the so-called comedy lines are sophomoric and… Read more »
Its unfortunate that they left all the answers to seasons 3 and 4. Now we will never know what is in the scrolls or what Orbis was really up to. But, I know all the answers. They are in the Orbis Parabola Group HR file cabinet.
So unfortunate that this brilliant escape from the day is no longer.
Not often can a story, supported by an amazing cast of talent, bring to life a writer/s vision and with such depth of character, in a few first episodes.
I have enjoyed the time I could end my evening with a program that washed the challenges of the day away.
This story is a victim of not having been marketed appropriately. Had I not left cable and turned to HULU, I would not have been so fortunate to watch this story.
I so enjoyed Lodge 49 for its quirkiness. My husband and I liked the show, and like so many shows we like, it was cancelled.
Best show on tv!!!
Lodge 49 Counterpart and sweet bitter all entertaining shows that required some thought to watch and we’re all excellent. I wish networks would take into account not everyone watches the bachelor or survivor or smoke other bull that has dancing magic or terrible singing! Some of us like to be challenged!
Whenever I fall in love with a quirky show, it gets cancelled. AMC should’ve cancelled Fear the Walking Dead instead.
They could go ahead and Cancel TWD. It’s that bad anymore
Lodge 49 is spectacular and we need a third season.
This makes me BIG SAD wth, this show is amazing. I started watching this show and I stopped watching everything else because of how unique and great it was. This is a must see and an absolute shame it got cancelled. This ruined my life and my whole family was murdered by the yakuza.
You have a typo. But also, I think it’s still satisfying like this. In a way we get a glimpse of seeing dud escape death, but are never given what would show us what is real in universe. Ending it here is a mindfuck because we can’t resolve the internal question of the series. It’s the same thing as in the hermetic texts about immortal life. Whoop-di-Doop. Does that make it contrived or more of a mindfuck? Take your pick. I can see how he was inspired by Pynchon. Loved the series, this is as good a place to end… Read more »
Just binged! Loved it and want more! We are in our 70’s. We feel like we actually know each of you. Let us know when you get another show.
So sorry that Lodge 49 wasn’t renewed.
This show was telling a really cool story, but didn’t get to finish. I was along for the ride, I would have loved to have ridden it out to see where it took me. Where else do can you get alchemy, masonry, mysticism, snake bites, shark bites, pool cleaning and plumbing …. and cheap beer? It wasn’t you’re usual slop of over-baked and rundown ideas. Thanks for the two seasons, wish there were more.
Just watched the 2 seasons. Got to say it is underwhelming to the point I am indifferent to a season 3 not coming. The premise had great potential, but the pace of actual story development was painstakingly slow and anti climatic. How many episodes did it take for them to finally go to Mexico? 95% character development, 5% story development, if that’s your thing.
The development was slow, and the Lodge 49 universe so depressing. Everyone unemployed or in a job they hated. Sick, broke, unloved, unhappy, alone, betrayed. WTH? But there was something special under all of that, trying to sneak through all of the negativity. The S2 finale felt like a peek into that, but we all know it wasn’t. S3 would have been in the same dystopian universe, where life itself was a pointless struggle. What WAS the point? I guess we will never know.
My heart sank when I heard about the cancellation of Lodge 49. I’m so tired of having gems like Lodge 49 canceled.
I was devastated by the cancellation of Lodge 49. It was the kindest, sweetest, most heartfelt show on tv. It celebrated all the broken bits of humanity and celebrated community as a means of finding hope. All of this is SO necessary and needed in the world right now. I hope we can one day bring the Lodge tale to completion.
