What’s This TV Show About?
Streaming on the Netflix paid subscription platform, Ozark stars Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Julia Garner, Jordana Spiro, Jason Butler Harner, Esai Morales, Peter Mullan, Lisa Emery, Josh Randall, Harris Yulin, Michael Mosley, Marc Menchaca, and Trevor Long.
The crime drama centers on Marty Byrde (Bateman), a Chicago financial advisor. Marty has been laundering money along with his partner, Bruce (Randall), for Camino Del Rio (Morales), a drug lord who works for a major cartel. When Del learns $8 million of his money has gone missing, he takes out Bruce, but gives a reprieve to Marty, after listening to his pitch on how he can repay him. Although their marriage is on the rocks, now Marty and his wife Wendy (Linney) must pull together as they uproot their children — Charlotte (Hublitz) and Jonah (Gaertner) — and start over in a strange, new place.
Because they’re not ad-dependent, Nielsen doesn’t track the viewership of streaming series, like Ozark, so we won’t know how it is doing, unless Netflix decides to publicize its viewership. Variety‘s review was largely positive, while The Hollywood Reporter‘s was less so, but Netflix will mostly consider viewing statistics, when deciding whether to cancel or renew Ozark for season two. In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye on the trades and update this page with any Ozark cancellation or renewal news. Subscribe for free updates.
