Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
Probably the only intriguing show on TV,and the only one I am committed to. The writing and talent are worthy of a second season
One of the smartest shows airing this summer. Talented cast and it makes you think twice about our current political season. Possibly the rationale for all the insanity. Art imitating life? Not sure how well it would play after the elections but hoping for another season.
This is by far is one of the best shows on this season. The writing and acting are top notch. The concept is very unique, but there is an audience for it if given the time to find it.
Braindead is a terrific show–there’s literally nothing like it on TV now. I would faithfully watch this show. BTW, I was surprised to learn about the BWay history of some of the actors! Please renew this show!
one of the most entertaining, innovative and quirky shows on TV right now. And so loaded with talent!!I look forward to every episode. Its so refreshing and makes me feel more rational in this cray political climate. Its wry and funny and my “vote” is to please give it a “second term” Maybe tighten up the wiring a little bit, but I’d still watch it regardless
Any show that has a cynical TV-viewer like me laughing at the previouslies–and, in fact, replaying them!–is definitely something special. This show IS one of the best on TV now, and their partnership with Amazon Video is something to mirror. My wife and I really hope they renew it.
I LOVED the show up to the last two episodes.
it was hysterical intelligent fast-moving and a thriller
the last 2 weeks have been slow and not funny.
it was so different than any show out there and it was my favorite show.
please keep it satirical which makes it funny and intelligent to watch.
It would be a tragedy if this show were not renewed. Remember that Star Trek, Max Headroom, and FlashForward suffered from poor ratings but were nonetheless classics that have grown in stature over the years. Please keep BrainDead on the air!
Brain Dead is best thing on TV! If network just knew how to market it , it would have been a huve hit. But they made it seem like it was supposed to be a comedy , and even the title is misrepresentitive. Its a Washington drama with a Sci-fi twist.
This is such a great TV Show. It makes the current political climate a little more bearable. It makes us realize there are a lot of braindead people in our politics and in the public at large to have gotten us to this point.
I absolutely love the show. It would be a real shame if the network lost this one.
My favorite show, hands down! I feel like I’m alone out here and only originally tuned in because of my mad crush on Danny Pino, but it’s so entertaining, original and well-acted! Please, CBS, keep it around!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!
This is the best show on TV in ages
We like ‘Braindead’ very much and would be very sorry if it was not renewed for next season. Its uniqueness and good cast make it fun to watch. Plus, we’re always waiting to see who will be infected next.
I love Brain Dead and eagerly wait for each new weekly episode. Please DON’T CANCEL!!!
