Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
I love Braindead.!!
Love this show!! Want more !!
I assume they hit to close to Washington politics.
I want more!! please dont cancel it 🙂
I would watch the second season. I have found this show to be creative, funny, clever storyline and I think will catch on.
I agree with a lot of the comments here – this was one of, if not the funniest series to be produced in the recent years. I live in Australia and feel that it had more than just a “American” sense to it with the way they played with the political arena and the personallities involved. Even thought the song at the beginning was a great touch, something new that worked. I would really like to see another season of this, too many good shows get pulled, and most of them get shown here with no advertising and bad timeslots… Read more »
This is the funniest series I have enjoyed for some time. I love the unique and offbeat subject matter and humor. Please do not cancel this show – ‘Love, love, love it!!!
Please bring it back for another season
Sorry for the typanese!
LOved this show Smattering and entertaining quirky and just the kind of show I would love to see continue PLEASE Rene!!!!
Loved this show. Finally a reason to LOL at all the inexplicably stupid things that happen in our government. Tony S. was brilliant as usual. Opening song was one of the best parts of the show! What a great hook! Don’t know how they’d do it, but I would so watch another season.
I will watch it
Yes we enjoyed the show, please make a second season.
My wife and I quite enjoyed Braindead, but I’m not sure where a second season would take us — unless they come up with a completely different story.
Braindead is choppy, disjointed, poorly written, and the acting (except for that of Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Tveit), is high-schoolish. Adultery isn’t funny. Adultery while the wife is pregnant, isn’t funny. Heads exploding, scenes that veer wildly from one plot line to another, none of which are clever, are tedious. Because the show has done so wretchedly, I have hope that smart, snappy humor lives. Goodbye, Braindead. Never was a series more aptly named.
