NBC SETS DEBUT DATES FOR SUMMER SCHEDULE

“Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls” Premieres July 8 While “Camp” Will Pitch Its Tent July 10

Competition Series “American Ninja Warrior” Launches With Two-Hour Special July 1, and Comedy “Save Me” premieres May 23

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – April 15, 2013 – NBC has announced premiere dates for the high stakes adventure competition series “Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls,” and the highly anticipated summer dramedy “Camp,” while also setting debuts for “Save Me” and “American Ninja Warrior.”

“Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls” will make its debut Monday, July 8 (9-10 p.m. ET). The show is co-produced by Bear Grylls Ventures and Ben Silverman’s multimedia studio, Electus. Grylls, Silverman, Chris Grant, Laura Caraccioli and Doug McCallie serve as executive producers.

“Get Out Alive With Bear Grylls” is a larger-than-life adventure reality competition series. Grylls, a world-renowned survivalist, leads a non-stop extreme-survival journey that tests 10 teams of two beyond their wildest imaginations as they venture into the unforgiving and dramatic landscape of New Zealand’s South Island.

“Camp,” which stars Rachel Griffiths (“Six Feet Under”) as a divorced camp director looking for a fresh start, will launch Wednesday, July 10 (10-11 p.m. ET). The series explores the campers and counselors at Little Otter Family Camp, where summer memories are made.

Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”) and Peter Elkoff (“Gossip Girl”) are the creators of “Camp.” They serve as executive producers with Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. The program is produced by Matchbox Pictures and BermanBraun.

Anne Heche stars in the comedy “Save Me,” which is set to debut Thursday, May 23 (8 and 8:30 p.m. ET) with two back-to-back episodes. Heche portrays a Midwestern mom and wife who undergoes a spiritual awakening after suffering a near-death experience.

From Sony Pictures Television and Original Film, “Save Me” was created by John Scott Shepherd, who executive produces with director Scott Winant (“Breaking Bad,” “True Blood”), Neal H. Moritz, Vivian Cannon and Alexa Junge.

On Monday, July 1 (8-10 p.m. ET), the summer favorite “American Ninja Warrior” returns to the NBC lineup with a two-hour special. The series, with hosts Matt Iseman and former NFL player Akbar Gbaja Biamila, will return to its regularly scheduled one-hour timeslot Monday, July 8 (8-9 p.m. ET). “American Ninja Warrior” also airs on NBCUniversal-owned Esquire Network.

The action-packed one-hour competition series follows contestants as they tackle the world’s most difficult obstacle courses across the country. Those that successfully complete a course in each city move on to the national finals round in Las Vegas, where they face a stunning four-stage course modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama in Japan.

“American Ninja Warrior” is executive-produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions’ founders Arthur Smith and Kent Weed (“Hell’s Kitchen,” “I Survived a Japanese Game Show,” “Pros vs. Joes”) along with Lake Paradise Entertainment’s Holly Wofford and Viki Cacciatore.

As previously announced, “America’s Got Talent” – last summer’s #1 series on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and total viewers – premieres its eighth season on Tuesday, June 4 (9-11 p.m. ET). For the first time, the program’s live episode will be aired from Radio City Music Hall in New York. “America’s Got Talent” begins its Wednesday run on July 10 (9-10 p.m. ET).

“America’s Got Talent” is produced by Simon Cowell’s Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Simon Cowell, Jason Raff, Sam Donnelly, Trish Kinane and Rob Wade are the executive producers.

AGT and ANW are proven good shows that NBC wisely doesn’t over-expose. However, the newbies don’t appear to be too hot. But, I’ll watch at least one ep of each to see.

I’ve been fooled before, especially by “Glee”, which didn’t look too promising in previews, but turned out to be a decent show.
