Kim Todd, the president of Canada-based Original Pictures, has confirmed that the youth drama Falcon Beach has been cancelled after two seasons. The series airs on ABC Family in the U.S. and Global in Canada.
The cancellation comes as a result of ABC Family’s decision to pass on a third season of Beach. Without the financial support of the cable channel, continued production isn’t possible. Todd says that Global offered to pick it up for a third season but at a significantly lower cost than before.
Strangely enough, Beach is being cancelled despite being quite popular. The show’s audience is made up of predominantly 12 to 17 year old girls. Unfortunately, the series failed to attract many outside of that age group and ABC Family wanted a broader demographic; i.e. 18 to 49 viewers.
The cancellation wasn’t a shocker to Todd who said, “You’re never surprised by what happens in series television, because the winds of change blow quickly and forcefully.” That doesn’t make the end result any easier, personally or professionally. Todd lamented, “So nothing is surprising, but it’s still extremely disappointing. In order to produce a television series, you have to invest so much of yourself into the process… And now we have to tell the cast and crew, and that’s disappointing, too, because we’re not the only ones who put their blood and sweat into this.”
Many citizens of the shoreside Lake Winnipeg town will miss Beach as well because it provided great exposure for the town and attracted visitors — from as far away as Japan. The town’s local mayor and restaurant owner Daryl Carry was told of the cancellation on Friday and said, “We’ve had tourists here every summer, coming to see where Falcon Beach is shot… But I guess at the end of the day, it didn’t add up. The money offered isn’t enough. They had to make a decision to pull the plug.”
The second and final season has already aired on Global in Canada. In the U.S., Falcon Beach began airing on ABC Family on April 9th and is expected to conclude on July 2nd. No plans have been released to tie up any ongoing storylines. Stay tuned!
Im 50 and have seen every episode of FB. It is one of only 2 shows I look forward to watching. (the other being Kyle XY) – what a great cast!!! I ditto everything I have read above – and I too will say goodbye to ABC if they cancel FB.
To be honest. I don’t think ABC gives a shat about what we say. They are the ones who own ABC. I haven’t watch ABC for a long time because of the crap they have on it. Falcon Beach, well i watch it on YTV, is a good show. Like it combines a lot of elements such as suspense, drama, romance, comedy, must I go on? If ABC is airing at 12:00am, like wow. Even adults have work or school in the morning and same with kids. No one in their right mind stays up that late. People need at… Read more »
I am 30 years old and have watched Falcon Beach since the first episode! I couldn’t wait for the second season to start and now we’re left hanging!!?? The least you could do for all us faithful watchers is end the show the right way!! Needless to say, I won’t be watching any other shows on ABC Family! I’ll stick to the channels you can depend on!
I love Falcon Beach. Me and my friend would record it every week and make a point to watch it. We got hooked!! Now we can’t believe that they are taking it off the air. We are very disappointed! I really hope that they will reconsider. I’m sure there would be a lot of viewers, I am 20 and I watched the show since the start. Who cares about the younger viewers being the only ones to watch the show. As I have seen from most of these comments it is not just the younger viewers that watch the show!!
Actually I never turned my TV to ABC Family before Falcon Beach. I started watching it on SOAP NET and had to watch the second season on ABC Family, so if it wasn’t for Falcon Beach ABC Family would have never got my viewing. I am 25 and LOVE teen soaps…90210, Melrose, OC, Dawsons, etc. I hate that they always take off good shows…Anyone remember Models, Inc. or Pacific Palisades? All good shows that were never given a chance……
I am 21 and the show was great. I did miss an eposide because of the time switch, but I loved the show.
i’m 56 and *LOVE* this show.

i am 40 years old and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE FALCON BEACH…
abc family is making the worst mistake ever by cancelling it – if they do I WILL NEVER WATCH ABC-FAMILY AGIN.the show had me hooked from the moment i saw the promos before season 1.. i thought the channels were into getting good rating if so WHY CANCELL THE SHOW .. everyone i know loves the show—PLEASE CONTINUE ON WITH THE SHOW,,, PLEASE,, PLEASE..
I am 24 years old and love the show. I can’t believe it wasn’t making it, it’s too good of a show! I really hope someone realizes that it was a mistake to take it off!
Im 16 and i know people in there 20’s who watched this show. It was a great show and i want it back. It not right to get rid of a show that is popular!
I am 33 and love this show. I do have a child so it was hard to watch, but every episode was recorded on DVR. Please reconsider, I LOVE THIS SHOW, if not at least let us viewers have the closure on it ……. PLEASE LEAVE IT ON !!!!!
I can not believe they would take this show off the air. The kids were believeable and could really act. I am 49 and love the show. I was so hooked I watched it on tv and the computer if I missed an episode. I think you all missed the mark on this show. Heck even my husband got into watching it. I know mostly for the pretty young ladies but he did like the story line as well. I would have to catch him up if he was late to join me in watching it. I do not know… Read more »
I am also a big fan of Falcon Beach and 32 years old. I am greatly diappointed that they cancelled this show. I agree about the time slot was too early in the night for most of us to view on a regular basis. At least do a two hour ending to give us closure to everyone’s storylines.
That is crazy. I am 18 and I love the show! It is probably one of the best shows I have seen. I can’t stand that it’s not going to be another season. Personally, I think it’s crazy that they are cancelling it. All of the good shows are being cancelled. Crazy!!
i cant believe abc puts a good family show like falcon beach and smallville on and gets people hooked and take them off and keep stupid showes on and i am 58.
