Kim Todd, the president of Canada-based Original Pictures, has confirmed that the youth drama Falcon Beach has been cancelled after two seasons. The series airs on ABC Family in the U.S. and Global in Canada.
The cancellation comes as a result of ABC Family’s decision to pass on a third season of Beach. Without the financial support of the cable channel, continued production isn’t possible. Todd says that Global offered to pick it up for a third season but at a significantly lower cost than before.
Strangely enough, Beach is being cancelled despite being quite popular. The show’s audience is made up of predominantly 12 to 17 year old girls. Unfortunately, the series failed to attract many outside of that age group and ABC Family wanted a broader demographic; i.e. 18 to 49 viewers.
The cancellation wasn’t a shocker to Todd who said, “You’re never surprised by what happens in series television, because the winds of change blow quickly and forcefully.” That doesn’t make the end result any easier, personally or professionally. Todd lamented, “So nothing is surprising, but it’s still extremely disappointing. In order to produce a television series, you have to invest so much of yourself into the process… And now we have to tell the cast and crew, and that’s disappointing, too, because we’re not the only ones who put their blood and sweat into this.”
Many citizens of the shoreside Lake Winnipeg town will miss Beach as well because it provided great exposure for the town and attracted visitors — from as far away as Japan. The town’s local mayor and restaurant owner Daryl Carry was told of the cancellation on Friday and said, “We’ve had tourists here every summer, coming to see where Falcon Beach is shot… But I guess at the end of the day, it didn’t add up. The money offered isn’t enough. They had to make a decision to pull the plug.”
The second and final season has already aired on Global in Canada. In the U.S., Falcon Beach began airing on ABC Family on April 9th and is expected to conclude on July 2nd. No plans have been released to tie up any ongoing storylines. Stay tuned!
I am 35, my mom is 65 and we LOVED this show. PLEASE bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m 15 and Falcon Beach is my absolute favorite show..but its on at a bad time I always have to record it because of the timing..there should be a third season but it should be aired around 9 or 10 pm not at 7pm or 12am. Thats the only reason why there arent enough people watching the show.
I am 51 yrs. old & i can’t beleave you are taking Falcon beach off ABC next it will be XY then what will it be? Soon you want have any viewers to support your station because you take all the good shows off the air.SO THEN WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY LOVED FALCON BEACH I WISH YOU WOULD RECONSIDER & KEEP IT ON…………..
I am 28 years old, my husband is 29. We both LOVED watching FB! It is the only show (besides OC re-runs) that we actually make it a point to sit and watch. We were not able to watch it when it was on at 12, but we recorded them and watched them when we got home from work. FB really made our Mondays! PLEASE don’t let it go! LONG LIVE FALCON BEACH!!!
I’m 44 and I have watched every episode with my 44 yr. old husband & 20 yr. old son. It makes me really angry that they continue to cancel shows.
I’m 26 and love Falcon Beach! I’m really upset it’s not coming back! REALLY UPSET!
IM 31 AND I WATCH THIS SHOW EVERY WEEK. THIS SUCKS, ALL MY SHOWS ARE BEING CANCELLED.
I agree…. I am not sure who it is that supposedly responsible for monitoring the age groups demographically, but they never asked our house! I am 41 hubby 44 we both love the show! We have never been ones to sit down and watch TV, but our daughter 18 started TIVO’ing the show for us to watch, we couldn’t get enough! I really wish that ABC would actually listen to the fans that tune in regularly. Shows how much the viewers really mean to the network!
Sorry, but I’m 38 and I relive my youth through shows like this. It would be another grate shame to cancel this show. Stop looking at the larger picture and realize that this show is :working:. dont fix something thats not broken.
THEY SHOULD NOT CANCEL FALCON BEACH!!! WHO CARES WHAT AGE PEOPLE ARE, AS LONG AS PEOPLE ARE WATCH THE SHOW!!!
I’m 29 and I luv the show….and out of my late 20’s/early 30’s friends, I’m not the only one !! Even though I’m not a big t.v. watcher and the fact that it was on friday nights, I still made sure I was home to watch it !!! What’s wrong with these network people…..Stop cancelling the good shows !!! Finally, a great Canadian show and they let it run for only 2 seasons….it’s just not fair !
I am 49 and watch this show every week. It took me back to my younger life when everything seemed so carefree. I am very disappointed that this show is ending….it has put a gray cloud of my summer….
I’m 26 and loved the show. It’s a shame that with all the trash on TV these days, a “family” channel cancels a decent show. I won’t be watching ABC Family anymore.
Im and a single 68 year old man and I absolutly love this show it reminds me of a childhood I wish I had. The show is so down-to-earth and I just want to make this crystal clear I am a man and I LOVE this show so much that if you cancel it I will cry my eyes out because my dear wife has just passed away and she loved this show and loved just as much as me so I want to keep on watching this program to honor the women that she was and still remains in… Read more »
I am 39 yrs old and love this show. I have been watching it from day 1. I agree ABC Family didn’t support this show from the beginning. Also, the stupidity of not having it on prime time is a big problem why the ratings might have been low. My nights are so hectic with children that I just taped it on Tivo. I looked forward to watching this show each week. Wow, I am so upset!! ABC Family get your head out of the sand….You made a big mistake! Maybe you can take lessons from the FOX channel!!!
