What looked to be one of the biggest hits of the new season, FlashForward, isn’t looking like such a hit any longer. Will the series make it to year two?
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted on September 24th on ABC. The premiere attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.47 million viewers. The following week, the number dropped to a very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
For week three, the ratings dropped again to a 3.0 and nine million. Total viewership rose for weeks four and five but the demo remained essentially the same with a 3.1 rating.
On October 29th, FlashForward dropped to a series low of a 2.7 rating and 8.92 million viewers. The sudden drop was understandable because it aired opposite the World Series on FOX. Unfortunately, baseball fans didn’t return last Thursday when there wasn’t a big game. FlashForward’s ratings sank even further to a 2.6 and 8.47 million, barely beating FOX’s Bones for second place.
ABC has already committed to a full season of FlashForward so it’s relatively safe for now. However, if these numbers don’t start going up, the series is far from guaranteed a second season.
What do you think? Do you think the ratings will go back up or will the show burn out in one season? Are you still watching? If so, what could be done better?

If the network exc’s would let their viewers decide what they wanted to watch instead of forcing us to what they think we “should” watch like the ridiculous awards shows and pagents maybe FlashForward could come back and be the huge hit it started out to be.
I have watched this show from day 1 and I have not missed an episode yet. I do believe that break they took with airing the show could have hurt the pilot a bit but I feel that it’s an adictive and very informative show. I have no plans to stop watching and I will just die if they cancel it because there is nothing else to watch other than those sucky reality shows.
when i found out they’re cancelling Flash Forward, it made me very sad.
i am a college student, and i don’t always get to see the show live, BUT i ALWAYS TiVo the show so i can watch it when i have time. i have become intensely invested in the plot and i am very sad to see it go. 🙁
My two sons and I watch Fastforward every week, it is the only show that we all enjoy together. I also have a sister and a 11 year old nephew that are faithful viewers.
I hope ff doesnt get cancelled, im a big fan. i think the overwhelming amount of programmes the us is throwin out constantly like csi ncsic lost 24 heroes etc etc seems to lessen the wow factor in any of them for a person hearing about them . viewing figures spread out across all of these programmes basically ending up in an average amount for each one creating no real dominance in any of them. programmes especially like ff and lost depend on commited audiences due to there confusing and intricate story lines so ya know, you miss a episode… Read more »
I would love to see this series continue. I would like to see how it could evolve. I pray it will be picked up for a second season but with the way the network schedules is shows around the holidays and big sports and awards events that is what truly kills the ratings. The way they sporaicaly put shows on one week here and wait 2-3 week before another one is how people lose interst, especially with a show like this one where every week is crutial for holding peoples intrest. Please network exc’s let this one hang in there… Read more »
Please do not cancel this show. My husband and I watch it every week, it is our favorite show. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.
FlashForward can’t die on its first season!!! It’s simply excellent!!! The plot, the atmosphere, the deep reflex ion about the drama that implies knowing our future and in each endeavor to change it we only get closer. All this blended together through the dark and bizarre outcome investigation of the Burrough and the CIA.
It just has to go on. Assessed on a television context, this is art. You can’t kill art.
Sincerely yours.
They need to keep this show because this is the best show that has hit the airways in some time. Much better than this reality crap they keep putting on the air which is just ridiculous!
I guess the suddent drop is because it kinda sucks to know the future. In my sittuation, I´m so tired of NOT knowing the future/past (like LOST – I´m a BIG fan!) that i kinda lost interest in flash forward! I always expect something different from it, and it turns out the same… it´s difficult to keep viewers interested when they KNOW the future! But then it changes. It should change… I keep expecting for something to misslead me. Another flash forward before April 29th.. I don´t know. One thing that makes me wanna stop watching, is the suddent break… Read more »
You hit the nail in the head! At first I thought the show was extremely good. However, as the FlashForward date approached, nothing really changed which is what I thought was going to start happening. I couldn’t agree more with you on the “sudden” breakup between Mark and Olivia making me want to stop watching. Weren’t they all like “we know it’s supposed to happen. So we aren’t going to let it. We can stop it. We love each other. We WILL stop it. etc…” lol Funny how Olivia just went for Simcoe from one day to the next. And… Read more »
Shows like “V” and FlashForward probably need to concentrate on doing 13 episodes a year, like Lost started doing a few seasons ago, and before that the Sopranos. It makes the show better that way. It gives the writers, and the production staff more time to pack each episode with a little more punch. They do this all of the time in Europe, take Doctor Who for example.
I absolutely love Flash Forward. Please, please, please do not cancel this show! It is very disturbing that after getting hooked on a new show, it is suddenly cancelled! This has happened too many times in the last few years. If FF is cancelled, I will be very cautious about watching any new shows on network TV in the future.
I think one of the big things that caused lost viewers was the long break between seasons.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE FF! It’s one of two shows my boyfriend and I watch religiously (the other being The Office). I think a big problem with it now is that after it took it’s break at the beginning of the year and came back in what? March? It wasn’t really advertised to much. I only knew when it was starting again because I was getting upset that it wasn’t on and I checked online all the time to see if I could find the next air date. I already own the first half of the season on DVD. I… Read more »
Keep Flash Forward! It’s, in my opinion, better than Lost!
