What looked to be one of the biggest hits of the new season, FlashForward, isn’t looking like such a hit any longer. Will the series make it to year two?
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted on September 24th on ABC. The premiere attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.47 million viewers. The following week, the number dropped to a very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
For week three, the ratings dropped again to a 3.0 and nine million. Total viewership rose for weeks four and five but the demo remained essentially the same with a 3.1 rating.
On October 29th, FlashForward dropped to a series low of a 2.7 rating and 8.92 million viewers. The sudden drop was understandable because it aired opposite the World Series on FOX. Unfortunately, baseball fans didn’t return last Thursday when there wasn’t a big game. FlashForward’s ratings sank even further to a 2.6 and 8.47 million, barely beating FOX’s Bones for second place.
ABC has already committed to a full season of FlashForward so it’s relatively safe for now. However, if these numbers don’t start going up, the series is far from guaranteed a second season.
What do you think? Do you think the ratings will go back up or will the show burn out in one season? Are you still watching? If so, what could be done better?

I think ABC should air every episode from the start of the series for the summer and give those viewers that did not keep up with the original shows a chance to see what they were missing.I always recorded FF so that I could keep up and I am telling you ABC your network have a very good show in FF it would be very unprofessional to loose and some other network pick FF up. So i hope you writers and the people that make the decision think this through very carefully, and last night 5/27 that episode was off… Read more »
Well now that Lost is over Flash Forward is my favorite show. It is a great show with a great storyline and great actors. With both LOST and Flash Forward gone there better be something better making an appearance, if that is even possible.
I love this show, and I am very sad at the thought of it not returning for season 2!!! The finale was amazing!!! I think the ratings may have had some problems because there was such a long break int he middle of the season without any new episodes. I think if ABC will just give it another chance people will come back to it……especially now that LOST is over. Flash Forward is the only show on TV that can compare with LOST and I think if given the chance next season Flash Forward will win the hearts of all… Read more »
They alway cancel the best shows, there is literally nothing left on TV now. No offense to lost fans but that show was crap compared to this one
I can’t believe they cancelled such an amazing show. Keep Flash Forward and scrap that V crap. Ratings may have dropped a bit but then they killed the show by taking that break. They didn’t even give it a chance. I think ABC executives are the ones who should have been pulled not Flash Forward. Brilliant writing and well thought out puzzles. The only thing is you really need to have watched the show from the beginning to really understand it and that might have hurt it. This is the first show in over a decade I actually made sure… Read more »
This was definatly one of the best shows besides reality shows that has come out in a very long time, this program was almost like something I would go see at a theatre. I think that the only problem was the time that it was aired was during the same time as survivor (thank god for a dvr) I believe that is what hurt the show the most. But to cancel this show is a big mistake. I loved this show. I really hope that it comes back for another season in a different time slot and I am sure… Read more »
I think that this was ABC getting back at the Lost writers and producers. The writers wanted to end Lost which was about 25% of ABC’s revenue. When the writers canceled it ABC was upset so this is all to get back the them for ending ABC’s best show.
I love the show it makes my Thursday night. ABC please keep the show on.
I have to stay. it was great. great ending, I hope another network picks up on what.. is a gem. Networks, come by and grab the gold mind before someone else does
One of the best shows on television cancelled? If anything networks should start cancelling reality tv shows. Flash Forward is one of the most creative shows on television. It would truly be ashame to cancel this one.
I can’t believe this show got cancelled. I couldn’t believe the negative blogs I’ve seen about this show either. The first series is always full of “growing pains” but I truly think this show was one of ABC’s hits. I don’t think I watch 1 other thing on this channel besides Grey’s and now I’m back to CBS and what they are bringing on next year. I am hoping another channel picks this show up. By the way, I heard this was dropped in favor of V – I can’t say I know one person who even watches that show.
firstly i’m a fan of LOST (loved the ending blah blah blah) My friends encouraged me to start watching FF saying if i love lost i’d love this, its alright in fairness i watched around 5 episodes but was finding it hard ontop of work etc to keep-up & ultimately i fell behind. I felt the biggest problem with it was it had the same background as Lost (lots of mysteries, learning about the lives of characters on the show etc, fair bit of sci-fi too) However unlike lost FF takes place in a civilised country (ie america), Lost was… Read more »
If it is the real end on ABC…I hope some other TV take it and will be continue with this awesome series. Finally something great and they stop it…aargh. Cant imagine why ratings are so bad.
Wow, i can’t believe its cancelled!!
I especially thought it was getting awesome around the episode 17-18 mark..
I think ABC his going out of his mind…really!! because they have a very few more good shows, and they are thinking in canceling this one that is excelent!!?? one of these days will will hear that ABC is going to close doors…for good if they dont think in another way…
STOP CANCELING SHOWS IN THE STUPID WAY LIKE YOU DO.
After doing some more reading on other sites it seems to have been confirmed, they actually canceled one of the best shows on ABC, there’s nothing that irritates me more than a company that cancels a show leaving so many questions unanswered. ABC needs to get their head out of their a** and start making season 2.
