What looked to be one of the biggest hits of the new season, FlashForward, isn’t looking like such a hit any longer. Will the series make it to year two?
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted on September 24th on ABC. The premiere attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.47 million viewers. The following week, the number dropped to a very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
For week three, the ratings dropped again to a 3.0 and nine million. Total viewership rose for weeks four and five but the demo remained essentially the same with a 3.1 rating.
On October 29th, FlashForward dropped to a series low of a 2.7 rating and 8.92 million viewers. The sudden drop was understandable because it aired opposite the World Series on FOX. Unfortunately, baseball fans didn’t return last Thursday when there wasn’t a big game. FlashForward’s ratings sank even further to a 2.6 and 8.47 million, barely beating FOX’s Bones for second place.
ABC has already committed to a full season of FlashForward so it’s relatively safe for now. However, if these numbers don’t start going up, the series is far from guaranteed a second season.
What do you think? Do you think the ratings will go back up or will the show burn out in one season? Are you still watching? If so, what could be done better?

I love FlashForward. It’s better than most tv shows on right now. I like the several plot threads and the story. I look forward to it every week. I like that they don’t spoon feed you everything. A show like this needs a season to get into it’s groove. I have a feeling it’s much more popular abroad than it is in the US. I am an American living in New Zealand, and it’s doing pretty well here. I would be gutted if it were canceled, but sadly, not surprised. It is one of my favorite shows besides Fringe and… Read more »
In Britain it was hurt by a) being on channel 5 and b) the huge gap in between the episodes which was a good few months and didn’t seem to have any reason. It’s an awesome show and needs to be publicised better.
Wow i can’t believe what i am hearing! Flashforward being canceled? I look forward to seeing it every week, it has so much potential! i have no idea why it has such low ratings, there are plenty of sorry tv shows on television and they haven’t been taking off. ill be very dissappointed if they cancel FlashForward!!!
Please dont cancel this show, me and my husband watch it every week and when we miss it we watch it online, so please keep this show on I would be sooooo sad if it gets canceled, but if you do don’t leave us hanging.
Plllllease don’t cancel this show! I’m in Australia and I’ve been worried the TV network here was going to can it as they keep putting it on later and later each week. Tonight it’s on at 11:30pm! AAAARRRGH… don’t make contemplate doing illegal things!! To get ratings back on track, maybe the show needs a few reflective episodes and a fresh load of new advertising to attract people back. Die hards I think would be prepared to sit through that if it can secure the future of the show. Surely the ratings boom of the first couple of episodes indicates… Read more »
HEY!! I love this show. the only problem is that it is at eight and not at ten. The day it is on is fine i have no problem with that. BUT THE TIME SURE NEEDS TO CHANGE SO I CAN WATCH IT!! If the time changes maybe people won’t be so budy to watch it like i am at eight.
i live in england and i don’t think we are too far behind america. The episode where demitri was supposed to die was the last one broadcast, are you past that yet? Anyway, if this show got cancelled i would be gutted, there are so many things that need answers that they cant just do one season. Is there a facebook petition or something? If there is then i’m joining!
I never had faith that the network would see the shows through to an acceptable ending they just don’t have the courage to do that. You mess with all this hiatus stuff you are bound to loose an audience for a time. If the networks would only stick to to it; promise at least 2 seasons for a show, no breaks, they may actually keep an audience. V and Flashforward had a following but I think even within that group we were ready for tha ax at the beginning. Most scifi’s don’t make it. These days I just don’t have… Read more »
I should be canceled. It’s sooooo boring…
My cousins and friends all chat up a storm on FaceBook about Flashforward!! We all love the show!! Most of us DVR it becuz it may conflict with other stuff BUT we catch up on the show and get totally INTENSE watching it!! I love the show!!
I think the problem with FlashForward was that the several episodes, and even after the New Year were extremely boring and there was almost no action involved at all. Just recently the show began picking up in pace, so perhaps if more people started watching it again then the show ratings would go up.
This has been the best show on TV for years outside of re-runs of Law&Order. There is too much to uncover in one season. Lost has been on forever and people love it however don’t have a clue what the hell is going on or why things are happening however it’s a BIG HIT! I’m told FlashForward is the new Lost….
ADRIAN! you seeing this ****! wait til ur a few shots deep before kara, remember that!
they better not cancel it, or me and my boy Adrian finna be pissed! olivia benford! you disgusting slime ball! reminds me of a few girls i once knew! if ABC cancels this show i along with my flash counterpart ‘gotta be godby,’ will do regretful things and make bad choices
I really like FlashForward. It is a great suspence show and I would really hate abc if they canceled another great show. There is nothing to improve on. I completely agree with Matthew.
