What looked to be one of the biggest hits of the new season, FlashForward, isn’t looking like such a hit any longer. Will the series make it to year two?
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted on September 24th on ABC. The premiere attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.47 million viewers. The following week, the number dropped to a very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
For week three, the ratings dropped again to a 3.0 and nine million. Total viewership rose for weeks four and five but the demo remained essentially the same with a 3.1 rating.
On October 29th, FlashForward dropped to a series low of a 2.7 rating and 8.92 million viewers. The sudden drop was understandable because it aired opposite the World Series on FOX. Unfortunately, baseball fans didn’t return last Thursday when there wasn’t a big game. FlashForward’s ratings sank even further to a 2.6 and 8.47 million, barely beating FOX’s Bones for second place.
ABC has already committed to a full season of FlashForward so it’s relatively safe for now. However, if these numbers don’t start going up, the series is far from guaranteed a second season.
What do you think? Do you think the ratings will go back up or will the show burn out in one season? Are you still watching? If so, what could be done better?

I am a big fan of the show. I wouldn’t like to see it taken off the airways. The show started off very promising but got confusing and jumbled. I think the writers were trying to run its concept along the lines of the show “Lost”. With multiple individual story lines, some of which are insignificent and layered on top of each other, the real theme of the show sometimes gets lost. In other words the writers are forcefeeding us too much information too soon. They need to just let the story flow naturally.
Should say “the ratings SANK,” not “the ratings sunk.” Ever since the intentionally incorrect “Honey I Shrunk the Kids,” people have forgotten the true past tense of some verbs, like shrank, sank, drank, swam, etc. It’s time to remember and honor our past-tense heritage.
@Netgk: Thanks for pointing that out.
I love FF. It’s a show for people who think, how they can keep V on proves ABC has people there that don’t think. I wish SYFY would pick it up.
Disney: I really liked this show, I know they have cancelled it but I hope they are planning on ending it with answers to all the questions they raised otherwise we wasted hours of our time for nothing.
At first I loved this show, and saw such potential for it. What happened. I thought I was going to sleep the last two times I watched. Better writing would go a long way with this show. I wondered how long the dullness would last.
I love the show however, I’m getting tired of watching shows that never seem to come to a conclusion. I thought the show was supposed to be a short series that would fianally find the answers and come to a conclusion. I would like to see more short term series that presents a dilemma and provides an answer and conclusion. Two years would be long enough. Shows that seem to go on forever (“Lost”) don’t hold my attention long enough to keep watching. I know actors want to keep getting paychecks, but maybe the series can solve one mystery in… Read more »
This is one of the best shows on TV right now. Maybe if there hadn’t such a LONG break it wouldn’t have lost viewers. I agree with Anonymous about “V”. It would be ashame if you took Flash Forward off and left “V” on.
I love Flashforward and even got alot of my friends to watch also. We’re very upset. This was the first show ABC got me watching at night. How unfortunate. Ijust don’t understand how ‘V’ is still on.
Flashforward started great but it got boring after that loooong break. It had such a great potential with the plot and that great cast but it couldn’t fill its potential. Imo cancelling the show is a good idea.
I LOVE THIS SHOW…..busy some Thurs. nights, but watched all episodes online……I want to know what happens each week!
God this show is terrible. It had such potential, but now can we just see them all run over by a meteor or something? They all deserved to die on this show.
I watch on hulu, as I am sure many others do also…it is more convenient for me…they can’t go only by who watch it on TV…it is one of the few shows I watch regularly and it by far is my favorite!!! bb

I definitely like it and so do a lot of people I know. I think they should have started it when LOST was over b/c it was being portrayed as a similar style and previewed a lot during LOST. I always DVR it and watch it later. They should at least try a different time slot or night before completely cancelling it. It should be on later too.
i LOVE flash forward. I really hope they don’t cancel because it has become one of my favorite shows on tv.
MY CANCELED IT IS A GOOD SHOW IT HAS A LOT ACTION THE PLOT IS GOOD AND I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE OUT COME OF THIS SHOW.
