After a disappointing debut last spring and a lackluster summer run, many were surprised that FOX kept The Good Guys on the fall schedule. In hindsight, FOX execs may be wondering why they did as well.
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
The May premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It. Not a good start.
Over the summer, airing on Monday nights, Good Guys only mustered an average of a 1.2 rating in the demo and 4.01 million total viewers. FOX decided to cut the run short in August and saved the remaining new episodes for the fall season.
Unfortunately, Good Guys has been performing even worse this fall. The first episode attracted just a 0.9 demo rating and 2.8 million viewers. The ratings have fallen even lower since then, consistently placing in fifth place for the timeslot. Last Friday, viewership dropped 25% in the demo, hitting an all-time low with a 0.6 demo rating.
FOX has six episodes of Good Guys left and, understandably, there’s been no word about the network ordering any more. With ratings like these, the network will either pull the remaining episodes or just let them run out. Either way, it’s impossible to imagine that Good Guys won’t be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Good Guys? Why have people been watching other things on Friday nights? Anything you would change about the show?

There a lots of followers of this show on twitter. It is a funny, funny show. Fox needs to promote much more and a better time slot could help. Just a bit more Fox attention and this show will do really well on its own! Give The Good Guys their due!!!!
I love the show. I don’t think that the network is doing enough to promote it. The chemistry between Whitford and Hanks is great. This is a funny show that should be doing better in the ratings.
I love this show! It’s unique and yes, it’s often over the top, but it’s a blast to watch. I agree with the USA idea, if FOX lets the show go. But I hope it sticks around somewhere.
Bummer because my husband and I love this show! It is a so funny, they get themselves into some great situations. Wish they would put it on a different night to see how it does.
best “normal” comedy show since years (curb and always sunny are not “normal” comedies). hope it will stay
Absolutely love the show! Unfortunately, I just know it won’t be coming back next season due to the appalling ratings. It’s such a fun cop show, something different than your usual cop procedural drama. I wish more people would tune in, it really deserves a bigger audience. Maybe if FOX does cancel the show; it can be picked up by the USA Network. It would be a perfect fit for that network.
It is a funny show. People on Hulu love to talk about the one liners on the show. It just appears to be a show that people who watch TV during the summer and on Friday nights are not interested in.
How disapointing… I absolutely love this show.
I think they let it go this long waiting for it to get a fresh lead-in. Now the final episode is being filmed, so they may as well burn them off.
husband and I love the show many laughs
I love The Good Guys! Please don’t cancel it!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep the show!!!!!!!!!!! I love it! It’s hilarious! Bradley Whitford is the best cop on tv! There are enough serious cop shows on tv and, while I do like those too, it’s nice to have one that’s funny!
Dear Fox,
Please keep The Good Guys on television! This one makes me smile and guffaw and I thoroughly enjoy it every week…although I’ve had trouble keeping up with it moving around and would prefer it to be on earlier BUT I am a fan of both Colin Hanks and now of Bradley Whitford…I think he is nothing short of a genius! Please do keep this show on.
There are many bad guys out there trying to snuff out the Good Guys. I will join the Good Guys in kicking the bad guys butts.
I personally like the show. I think it’s a fun, light-hearted cop show that doesn’t take itself too seriously. But being banished to Friday nights sure doesn’t help it out any.
Banishment to Fridays isn’t the show’s problem. The overall number of viewers for the night doesn’t matter when it’s coming in last against that competition. It’s better than being up against tougher competition like over the summer when it was trounced by reruns.
