Starz was very happy with the early reception of their new Outlander TV show so they gave it an early season two renewal. The cable channel has often given quick renewals but the series are then often cancelled after two seasons. Will Starz regret giving Outlander a second year order so soon? Would it have been cancelled if they had waited?
The Outlander series revolves around Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. She finds herself mysteriously thrown back in time, to 1743 Scotland, and forced to marry another man to save her life. A passionate affair is ignited. The rest of the cast includes Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Annette Badland, Stephen Walters, Laura Donnelly, Lotte Verbeek, James Fleet, Duncan Lacroix, Roderick Gilkison, Simon Callow, Grant O’Rourke, Bill Paterson, and Simon Meacock.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
1/29 update: Have you heard that season two has been cancelled? Well, it hasn’t.
Final season averages: 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.04 million total viewers.

What do you think? Do you like the Outlander TV show? Do you think it should have been renewed for a second season or cancelled instead?
I look forward to each show, please don’t discontinue. I think it is well done
Of course renew it. I have all the books, all the audio and season one plus the soundtrack. I will be buying all the seasons you can produce!
We LOVE this show! Please do not cancel it.
What happened to Outlanders for tonight? It’s May 23, 2015 and we have it to record but thought we would stay home and watch it tonight. Did it get cancelled?
The season finale is Saturday, May 30th. The show has not been cancelled. They are currently filming season 2.
Season 1 finale airs next Sat May 30@ 9 pm! I thought I missed it too!
I can wait for season 2 and I hope starz continue with more seasons of outlander. I am currently buying the blu rays for the season to keep them
My husband and I are in a funk. We thought Outlanders was showing tonight. Today is May 23, 2015. We have it to record the series, but it’s not showing one this weekend . Did something happen? Anne
The season finale is on May 30th. They had a Memorial Day weekend marathon. It was a little sneaky pushing it back a week!
I have read the books and watch the t-v series with my husband. We both love it.
I hope they continue with the series. Many of my family and friend’s love the show.
I love the books, and I love the series Cant wait for next season.
I am getting disenchanted with the series. The sex scenes, nudity are a bit too much on TV. Yes, they are in the books, but I’m being careful who I watch it with because the scenes are not what I would want to watch with my adult son or neighbors. To me, this is really sad because I loved every one of the books and have raved about how good they are, but I no longer say, “Hey, let’s watch Outlander – you’ll love the story,” because I don’t know what might be on the screen.
The books are VERY sexy. That’s a big part of who Jamie and Claire are, and why they are so popular. I don’t get why you would expect the show to be something else.
Personally, I LOVE the sex scenes. It is wonderful to see TV with sex and nudity that caters to the female view for a change. I would not watch if they took that away.
I am not a very good at reading books or watch a series, for so many years I did not pay any xtras to my cable company to watch any movies but this serie is so good that I am paying for starz to my cable company just to watch outlander. I also started to read the books I can not believe I am doing this. I love outlander great serie
i love Outlander! I should add that I would. To be caught dead reading a “romance” although I think that part of the series is beautifully done. I would not be watching watching the series if it was not so full of real life as lived in other times. Of course it is violent… Violent times can be found throughout history…including the present. I personally remember WWII. I love the history in the books and in the series and hope the series on Starz continues through to the end of the book series … Not yet completely written … Even… Read more »
Do you not use the Live+7 ratings in your chart. That is being argued as the new standard for the broadcast industry as well as cable. Cable shows in particular have much better ratings when DVR numbers are figured in.
I used to love OUTLANDER but they warned us it was going to be darker and they really delivered! I love the characters but the cruelty is more than I can take. I didn’t think we needed to see Jenny empty her breasts either. Who was that supposed to benefit/turn on? I can’t believe how these fabulous actors can be wasted on the scripts they’ve been given. They deserve better and so do we.
Outlander is definitely not for the faint of heart. I think it really needs to go to those dark places with the characters, though, because that’s what makes the light so much sweeter for Jamie and Claire. It’s what forges their love into something so powerful.
As for the breast milk scene, I loved it! That’s the kind of intimate scene that makes these character seem so real.
My husband and I have been “binging” on Outlander for the last three days. Did not have time during normal airings to watch but now, cannot wait for the season finale and then season 2 to begin. It is my favorite series on TV, and second only to The Walking Dead for my husband. Not just a chic show!!!!!
Well they made it into a typical malecentric *** and ass spectacular with the usual Hollywood fear of attractive male nudity so of course it’s going to bomb. I watched the first half of the season but when they upped Claire’s gratuitous nudity in the April 4th episode I gave up on the story. I have read the series three times as it is so long between sequels I forget what is happening and I love the books. But I don’t want to see Outlander through male eyes and that’s what the STARZ series is.
Ummm…Have you seen Episode 112??? 😉 Or the end of 109 and the beginning of 110? Trust me, they aren’t shying away from male nudity and it’s definitely seen through female eyes.
It will not bomb!
I ADORE the Outlander series…want it to continue thru the 8 books of D. Galbadon.
The one good thing on cable and you have to take it off?
