NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
Please bring it back on!!!!! I stumbled across this show on Nbc website and fell in love with the cast and the whole concept! I am devastated that Nbc is strongly considering but most likely will cancel it. Yes the ratings were poor, but maybe that had to do with poor advertisment for the show. Maybe a sneak peak for a couple show aired right after christmas isn’t the best idea since there are many emotional people longing for a loved one and seeing the preview for this show can send some depressing singles. Try it again please! I mean… Read more »
I love perfect couples!!!
I don’t want to watch tv except for sports but this one was cool.
They need to give the show some time to get a following. It was funny and well-written, and it could compete with the likes of 30 Rock and Parks & Rec. Who’s the a-hole who thought Paul Reiser would be a good choice? He/she needs fired. Bring it back!
I thought Perfect Couples was hilarious. I watch all the Thursday night lineup and rarely laugh out loud at the others. This show cracked me up. I wanted my mom to watch it and was recommending it to my friends. VERY disappointed to hear its gone!!!
SOOOOO SAAAAAD this show is canceled!! I hate that! I soooo love this show. I couldnt wait for Thusdays nights to watch Perfect Couples, Parks and Rec, The Office and 30 Rock. That’s it. Man, this show is awesome and the comedy was great. Whoever decided to pull it, was a terrible idea. that show was FUUUUNNY!! i loved the humor.
BOOOOOOO NBC!!!!!
I love this show!! I totally agree with what Danielle said. I’m not a TV person but I liked it so much that I watch all the episodes online! NBC, don’t get rid of it.
I have to admit, if the cable company had not forced me to upgrade to a standard service that has on demand access I would’ve missed out on Perfect Couples. My fiancé and I watched every episode of it via on demand. It was written brilliantly-modernly incomparable to any sitcom. We genuinely laughed out loud during every episode. I’m sad to read that it may not continue for another season.
This show is the awesome, and I’m highly disappointed that it won’t be back.
Boo.
I loved this show and was so bummed when it was cancelled. I admit, I wasn’t a fan at first, but it really grew on me and seemed to become funnier with each episode. I wish NBC would reconsider, especially now that Paul Reiser’s show has been cancelled.
The show is very good. Great humour but maybe too intelligent for most of the dumbed down TV hypnotized idiots. Perfect Couples made me turn the TV back on and it seems that due to the sheeple, that only want to watch crap highly publicised, we will be deprived of this show.
What can we expect of people that love American Gladiator a similar idiot shows?
NBC spent millions with great success, selling **** as if it were good shows and when they have a pearl they want it to sell itself!
I LOOOOVEEEE PERFECT COUPLES WAY TOO FUNNY THE PROBLEM THEY HAD WITH IT, WAS THE LACK OF PUBLICITY BUT THAT SHOW IS AWSOME HONESTLY COMEDY CENTRAL SHOULD BUY I BET THEY WOULD DO BETTER WITH A HIT SHOW LIKE THAT!!
The greatest things in entertainment (music, performance, movie, & tv) always crumble because the mass majority of people are numb sheep that will agree with any shallow critic. This show was awesome and I really hate to see it go… But all things boil down money witch sucks. I think they could have marketed it better! I found this show on a fluke and waited for new episodes every week, Liked it better than Modern Family! Bummer!
This show is way better than people are saying. I watch the office. Community, parks and rec, 30 rock and perfect couples. I’ve even watched outsourced. How is that show more in demand than perf couples. Outsourced is cringe worthy and blatantly racist. And it is vs a hilarious and spectacularly not racist show. Let’s not forget outsourced takes a stab at india (and degrades americans according to the shows portrayal of the us. Perf couples takes a stab at something that, basically, isn’t racist. Its a much more appropriate and gentle satire. P.S. I laughed out loud while watching… Read more »
I think this show is hilarious. I love that there is no ridiculous laugh track urging on the laughter. I found myself laughing out loud simply because these characters were truly funny. To be replaced by something so stunted as another reality show, about yet another has been, is a slap in the face of true comedy. This show deserves another season to prove itself, although I believe it already has.
