NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
Perfect couples is a great show. Its type of comedy seems to be geared towards people moving towards or in serious relationships as well as people that miss and live in the glory days. Its a great show and shouldn’t be canceled
OMG!! Perfect Couples is freaking hilarious!!! Two shows in my life that were cancelled prematurely were Freaks and Geeks and this one. The writing is brilliant!! Give it another shot NBC! Market it differently. It’s one of the best comedies I’ve ever seen!
The first episode was funny, it got progressively less funny after that. But I was anticipating the second season, so please bring it back. If you wanna cancel something, go with Friends With Benefits, that show dumb.
My husband and i really liked this show…bring it back!
this show deserved to be canned. I think it was too uneven, flashes of brilliance were too evenly matched with long dull moments that lasted the entire length of the show. And at least one of the male leads was a dude, the unshaven one. It defies logic that someone as untalented as that guy should be on tv. The others should find other shows to shine in, and more consistent writers.
I missed the first couple episodes but didnt miss one after the second episode. It was halarious and this is a horrible move by NBC. Bring it back!
This show was fabulous! Didn’t hear about it until I started watching with my boyfriend through Hulu. We’re both very disappointed that it won’t be coming back. [PS you can add two 5 star votes to the show from the 18-45 demographic]
i love this show. one of the few shows that makes me laugh so hard i cry
I love this show and wished I knew about it from the beginning and have loved the episodes on Hulu! Very funny!
I love this show nbc needs to count how many times a show is watched online and on hulo
I swear I married a hybrid of these 3 guys and I loved this show!!! It was so funny, BRING IT BACK! Put it on at a better time! Try some marketing!
This is one of the smartest TV shows since The Office, Raising Hope & Parks and Rec, NBC is nuts for taking it off the air. I haven’t laughed so hard at comedy that is super relevant to my age group. Booooooo NBC, Boooooooo
My husband and I loved perfect couples, we thought it was very funny and we will be very upset if it doesn’t come back. Please bring it back!
I love this show, would have watched it but only found the episodes on hulu. Bring it back
I am so unhappy that this show was canceled! I watched it on On Demand on Time Warner cable. I never saw commercials for it …the problem was poor promotions for this sitcom. BRING IT BACK!!!
