Is there a future for game shows on FOX? Recently, network executive Rob Wade spoke with Deadline about the futures of TV shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Spin the Wheel, and Mental Samurai.
A long-running dance competition series, So You Think You Can Dance is currently airing its 16th season. Meanwhile, the game shows Mental Samurai and Spin the Wheel debuted their freshman season this year.
At this year’s summer TCA press conference, Wade revealed the network has still not decided whether or not to renew Mental Samurai, So You Think You Can Dance, or Spin the Wheel for more seasons:
We obviously have a lot of other shows, So You Think You Can Dance, Spin the Wheel, Mental Samurai — we have to consider all those as a group,” Wade said, hinting that not all will make the cut. “I can’t pick up everything, I need to leave some room to take some shots.”
And while the futures of Mental Samurai and Spin the Wheel seem tenuous, it does look like So You Think You Can Dance has a stronger chance of a returning to FOX for another season. When asked about its renewal chances, Wade praised the series and its Emmy nominations:
It’s a good show, and it’s got three Emmy nominations. I think they do a good job, I think it continues to perform ratings-wise — overnights, its L7s are very good. When you compare it with other shows on TV at the moment, it does very well. We haven’t made a decision yet.”

I watch So you can Think you can Dance. Love watching this show and the amazing young up and coming dancers.
With all of the trash on tv it’s refreshing to see a wholesome and talent forward show like SYTYCD. I’ve been a fan since the beginning and would like it to return to having a Top 20 on stage. Too many talented kids get cut to get down to 10.
Please keep Mental Samurai. We used this game show as a family night. We would go through the questions and pause it after each one and let everyone from our 10-year-old daughters to our 70-year-old mother answer the questions. Then we would let it go ahead and everybody see the answer. We enjoyed it, our children enjoyed it and our mom. It is a great family show and educational. Please keep it!

SYTYCD should definitely stay on, its entertaining and gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of everyday individuals. It gives hope that you can live your dream, dreams do come true. This kind of message is always needed in our culture, now more than ever. If it’s a money issue,please make sure you look at it from the view of going back to orginal duration at least when the dancers have been chosen. There must be a way. There always is.
Please keep So You Think You Can Dance. It’s a high quality competition show that brings music, dance, art and culture to the home. My entire extended family have watched for 16 years.
Please keep So You Think You Can Dance. I agree, it’s culturally crucial not just for the contestants, but for those who may not have access to a theater. It’s a positive exchange of cultures and learning and bonding and to that point I am very disappointed at the lack of minorities, specifically African-Americans in the finals this season. Please keep So You Think You Can Dance !!! Of ALL the shows on tv, this is my favorite show!! I’ve never missed an episode and still have some on my recorded list to rewatch! My husband also likes this show & watches with me!!
I dont think that So You Think You Can Dance should be cancelled, I do however think it should return to it’s original format. Now it spends too much time telling the stories of each auditioner. Time wasted. Bring back the dance. And get better judges. Love Niles and Mary.

I love, love, love SYTYCD! This show is absolutely breathtaking; the dancing is phenomenal, the choreographers are the best in the industry, the judges are compassionate and respectful of contestants’ feelings. I wait eagerly for this show all year, and I feel dismayed that it seems to be shorter than it used to be. This is truly quality programming, bringing inspiration and beauty that can be shared across multiple generations of fans.
