NBC has given the go-ahead for a third season of its Who Do You Think You Are? reality series. The show follows celebrities as they travel far and wide to trace their ancestral roots. Celebrities that have taken part thus far include Sarah Jessica Parker, Emmitt Smith, Matthew Broderick, Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon, Spike Lee, Vanessa L. Williams, Tim McGraw, Rosie O’Donnell, and Kim Cattrall. Lisa Kudrow is the executive producer and has also appeared on camera, traveling as far as Poland.
Who Do You Think You Are? started off season one with a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.85 million viewers. By the end of the season, the ratings had fallen to a 1.2 in the demo and 5.21 million. Still, NBC opted to bring it back for another season.
Three episodes of season two have aired so far and have averaged a 1.3 rating and 6.6 million viewers. Those aren’t great numbers but apparently good enough for a Friday night timeslot. There are five more episodes to go for season two which is expected to wrap in early April.
What do you think? Do you like the Who Do You Think You Are? series? Glad to see it renewed?

Yes, so glad to hear it’s coming back for a 3rd season! It has inspired me to join ancestry.com and I have also discovered documents that I or my parents didn’t know about. Good job to Lisa Kudrow – her episode was so interesting and actually brought me to tears.
I absolutely LOVE this series and I always make sure to be in front of my TV to watch each new episode that airs. I’ve also purchased the season pass on iTunes to download every episode onto my iPod.
It’s my sincere hope that the NBC execs will continue to give a green light on this series for seasons to come. I know this show definitely has a following and I’m very proud to say that I’m part of it.
I too enjoy this show it is so interesting to see where people’s families come from and what impact they had here in America and anywhere else. I can’t wait for tonight’s show as the preview says her ancestor is from the mayflower which is mine too. Hope the series continues for many seasons and years to come. Perhaps I could be on the show someday. Having an interesting background from the mayflower to the founder of Protestant church to pochahantas and many more
Love the show and upgraded my Ancestry Membership after watching it! You should pick a few fans(pick me-pick me) to be on the show!!
Thanks for renewing!
I love this show and was so glad to hear that it is being picked up again. Hope the keep it on for a long time to come. I, too, would like to see some “ordinary” people’s searches, but also some “celebreties” that aren’t actors. Maybe some famous politicians, business leaders, historical figures, etc.
After researching family histories for many years, it is mind-blowing to watch the amazing assistance that the personalities who participate receive from experts on Who Do You Think You Are? It is a great experience to see such detailed methods of how to go about looking for your family. It would be interesting to see more of this type of program.
I enjoy the show. One of the shows mentioned one of my ancestors arriving here from Germany.
Look forward to the show. Agree some ‘not quite famous’ could be interesting. Helps me stick with the hunt.
I Love the show and hope it goes on and on. I would love to see the ones from England.
I too do Family History through Ancestry.com and love it.
I to enjoy the show. I also am older than 50. It is very interesting. I had to write a report when I was in grammr school about where my family came from. My fathers parents had some information for me. My mothers mom had some information also. I think everyone is a little currious about finding there roots.
My husband and I are actively involved in researching our family tree and thoroughly enjoy watching this program. Genealogy is a hobby predominently followed by the 50+ age group. It’s nice to see that some studio executives are actually paying attention to the millions of US viewers who are over 50. Many thanks.
I agree with Cathy! Some people have REALLY interesting backgrounds, like mine, for instance. My family came from Holland in 1634 and settled in the area known then as ‘New Amsterdam’ aka – New York City. They owned the property where the twin towers used to stand. Two brothers had not signed to sell the land – and our family was in and out of the largest and longest lawsuit in the history of our nation! I understand that if we can trace our roots back to the original Dutch that founded New Amsterdam – which I have the records… Read more »
Would enjoy an informative show that explains how average people can begin their own search to find out who they are. I really do enjoy the show…..much better than all the reality shows.
I love the show. It involves real-life detective work and the episodes have held my attention. The show is an absorbing execution of an original idea. I especially loved Lisa Kudrow’s own episode.
I have to admit, I don’t see why anyone would watch this show. I find my *own* genealogy interesting, but I would never think that *others* might be entertained by it. It’s fine for people to learn where they come from, but why would anyone else care? What’s next…. Lady GaGa’s home movies and Halle Berry’s vacation videos?
love the show wish you would show regular peolpe too they must have interesting backgrouds as well!!!
Love this show. Thanks for renewing it.
