CBS is playing it particularly safe this fall. The Tiffany network is introducing only four new shows, therefore sticking with most of its current schedule and canceling few programs. The few casualties (mostly sitcoms) of the 2005-06 season are:
Courting Alex – The quirky show starring Jenna Elfman and Dabney Coleman started as a mid-season replacement show but never quite caught on. The eighth of the 12 episodes aired in March and the show has been off the schedule since.
Love Monkey – The Tom Cavanagh sitcom was pulled from the CBS schedule after only three episode airings but VH1 started airing the remaining five episodes in April 2006. Viacom owns both VH1 and CBS and no further episodes have been ordered.
Out of Practice – This doctor-family sitcom starred Henry Winkler and Stockard Channing on CBS’ big night of comedy. Unfortunately, it didn’t perform as well as How I Met Your Mother or the more recent The New Adventures of Old Christine. To date, 14 of Practice’s 20 episodes have aired and has been off the air since January 2006.
Still Standing – After four seasons and 88 episodes, CBS has pulled the plug on this family sitcom. The last episode aired on March 8, 2006. There was no official closing episode produced but reruns will begin airing on Lifetime in the fall.
Threshold – CBS’ answer to science-fiction programming (ABC had Invasion, NBC had Surface…) didn’t catch on and was pulled from the schedule after nine of its 13 episodes had aired. You can however find all of the episodes here.
Yes, Dear – This family sitcom aired for six seasons and 122 episodes. Though you can find reruns in syndication, it will not return to CBS in the fall. It’s unknown if it was intended to be a series finale but the final scene of the sixth season featured a sentimental scene between Greg and Jimmy.
Just wanted to tell Corinne that while I really liked Invasion as well, it only aired for one season not two. It really left all the viewers hanging in mid air.
I am a dwarf and the only happiness I have is to watch Leah on King of Queens. I’m also gay and she makes my head spin. The accent drives me crazy and the only thing I can think about while lying in bed a night is the love of my life. She is my inspiration, my world and my everything. I live for her!!! Please do not cancel the show!!!!
Please DO NOT CANCEL King of Queens. Its the best show out there!!! I laugh so hard and it makes me forget my trial and tribulations of being a dwarf. I love this show please don’t cancel it, don’t forget us “little people” like to laugh too!
Please don’t cancel King of Queens. I’m a hermit and that’s the only show I watch. PLEASE!! I don’t leave my house or converse with anyone other than my Lizard. This is extremely important to me…..
What happened to INVASION? My husband and I watched both seasons and we loved it. However, we see some of the cast are now on up coming NEW shows.
Have they been cancelled?
well, “Out of Practice” was a smart adult comedy,, Sooo it was cancelled, The state of t.v today
My family really enjoyed watching Yes, Dear & Still Standing. They were two of the last remaining family shows that my husband and I were comfortable watching with our kids, as a family.
I also throughly enjoyed watching Henry Winkler in Out of Practice – I thought all of the characters were very, very funny.
I think cancelling these three shows was a BIG mistake for CBS.
“still standing” was good because of mark addy and jamie gertz. i don’t know why it didn’t get better ratings. “yes, dear” was a giant steaming bowl of elephant piss and shouldn’t have lasted past the pilot. then again, every stupid-ass reality show that comes down the pike seems to stay on the air forever, so i guess i shouldnt be too surprised.
I guess the family type shows aren’t RAUNCHY enough for CBS to keep airing.
Was just wondering if Fox will be airing the final shows for Reunion. I know everyone is dying to know who the killer is.
Will there be a finale for ABC Invasion?
Bring back Out of Practice. The quality of the writing is too good to be replaced by that other swill.
CBS made a big mistake cancelling Out of Practice. I thought the show was a lot funnier than King of Queens,How I Met Your Mother, Or The New Adventures of Old Christine.
King of Queens has been renewed for the 2006-07 season, though only for 13 episodes and as a midseason replacement. It will be the show’s ninth season, making it the longest-running sitcom currently on network TV.
However, actress Leah Remini has confirmed that it will be the show’s final season. Expect to see CBS start to air new episodes in January 2007.
If you can’t wait, reruns of the Kevin James show start airing in the Fall of 2006 on TBS.
DID THE KING OF QUEENS GET CANCELLED ?
