As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
I loved the story line and when I found out their was no next season I was shocked it was great and loved watching it the actors where good too plz bring it back reg Matthew and tegan
Please continue this series, if only on DVD! There are many of us that were waiting for the continuing story, and will watch on TV, online or DVD. The actors
were amazing, and we kept waiting and waiting to hear when season 2 would begin. Cannot believe you cancelled this! This is one of the most captivating series I have seen, and we watched every episode…and still bought the DVD.
Just finished watching again. Please bring this back!
Very disappointed, NBC is too commercial base rather than in the eye of our Lord. AD is a good media to spread the gospel of our Lord. Bring it back!
Please bring back AD. I know the acting wasn’t as good as The Bible, and the story line was sstretched like a soap opera, BUT the show continued to show the message of Jesus, the true Buddhist that his message was about….not the religious zealot ramblings of forgiveness of sins. That is the problem with Christianity, religion, and WHY soooooo many have turned away…Jesus wasn’t about the redemption of sin, but about the BEAUTY of LIFE. Please, bring it back…but like the original BIBLE miniseries that brought me back to GOD, and saved my life, brought me TRUE PEACE.
Jesus literally said that he was about the forgiveness of sins. If he was about the “beauty of life”, then what would be the point of him dying for our sins? Which actually happened in the Bible, by the way. I suggest you read the whole New Testament again.
I just finished season one on dad and just learned of season two being canceled!!!!!!!! Why!!!!!!!! So powerful and life changing! Please please please recast the same actors and film season two!!!!
I am so disappointed that AD got cancelled. I thought other than news I have stopped watching television. There are zero options for viewers who want wholesome entertainment. It is so sad that my kids have to watch the same bible stories produced decades ago. I mean they are still watching the same bible stories I grew up watching. So sad. I even got close Jewish friends to watch it, it opened for interesting conversation about how both religions developed.. Most people have no clue what happened after the Easter story. SO disappointed .the quality was excellent. I’m sure another… Read more »

Shame on NBC, they have a duty to their viewers to at least finish the storyline in some form e.g. a final mini-series or double episode.
I would definitely prefer a full series 2 and more. The acting is superb.
You don’t have to be a Christian to enjoy this marvellous work- the message is for everyone. I would like to say ‘NBC, I forgive you!’.
I really love how it’s made, I want to see it continue, it’s excellent it’s great, I just love everything about it, the message of peace and love and forgiveness, great actors, loved where it was filmed, the Word comes to life…. the story needs to be told, it’s good for our souls renew it NBC, it helps all who watches, it touches the heart, and that’s what we all need, touched by love and what praying does for all of us, this generation needs it, our young needs it, keep it on… keep the faith, all that is good… Read more »
Of course I will watch the series on or off line. My heart is sadden that NBC chose not to renew it. The series reached out not only to those with belief, but it was reaching out to those searching for belief. Shame on you NBC!!! Please inform of it’s release date. Thank and God bless you!
Of course I will watch this series online or other way. It is great. It shows characters and events in such way as i imagined. So I will watch its continuation if it would be (and I hope it will). And many of my friend also wait it.
So pissed I’ve been waiting on this show, I loved it. Bring it back on Netflix
Of course there’s no season 2 and we know why anything which can influence people to do good and believe in a messiah that can give you everlasting life …the devil is at work with NBC
This is an excellent series and was saddened when I heard it was cancelled. My prayer is that it will continue. Yes I would definitely watch it.
Oh how I GREATLY wish & Pray that AD would continue on. It was the BEST EVER TV series I’ve seen in a VERY looong time. For TV programs like the “walking dead” to be so highly rated & a family christian program like AD to be canceled reflects the sickness of our society. AD was a TOP notch, incredible acting, heart tugging ever bit a AAA program filled with truth & drama. I pray another network would pick it up like God TV!! Our Country needs AD to come back. I myself did not even know about it until… Read more »
