As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
You should not have canceled. This program was awesome. Are you too PC to have a decent Christian program I have quit watching NBC because of all the low morals and values you portray. Even the news shows are one sided and propaganda filled.
Believe it or not I just watch this on “Netflix” and when it didn’t load to continue I just couldn’t figure it out why? I searched online and on youtube for answers. why would they cancel such a good show like this? Please bring it back or put the whole movie on line so we can watch it.
It was wonderful to see the truth as Jesus predicted to come to pass, reading about our Lord but seeing it and grasping the life of the Disciples seeing their lives as told by the prophets G-D himself Chose.Soul gripping.Finish what G-D had you start, you the modern day disciples.
I was so looking forward to the continuation of this show. My family and I will most certainly watch it when it comes out. Fortunately, I have the bible and know the story very well.
I am very sorry that the show was cancelled! I really enjoyed it and shed many tears as well. There are so many reality shows on now and most of them are people airing their dirty laundry on TV. I really don’t like those shows. I got so wrapped up in A.D. and could not wait for the next episode. Now they have left me hanging! The world has gone crazy! They want to take God out of everything and we need him now more than ever.
They left us at a cliff hanger! I want more!
I WANT THIS MINISERIES BACK! ITS COMPLETELY UNFAIR FOR US AS FOLLOWERS TO LEAVE US WITH AN INCOMPLETE VISUAL STORY. DOING SO IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER LOSS OF FAITH IN N.B.C. I DEEPLY HOPE IT COMES BACK SO WE CAN VISUALLY SEE THE INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLICAL PEOPLES MENTIONED IN THE TESTAMANTS. PLEASE PRODUCE THIS AGAIN AND FINISH WHAT YOU’VE STARTED. I BEG YOU…
Amen! I have been waiting now for two long exhausting years now going on three in April waiting for season two!
Since being introduced to A D. via Roku TV in 2017. We have thoroughly enjoyed the series. At the time it debuted we lived very rural and did not have access to cable TV. It is so disappointing that a sequel to this was not continued with. Being a teen Sunday school teacher, this would have been a wonderful Sunday evening venture to explore with my class following the book of Acts. It would be outstanding if consideration would be given to perhaps doing another mini-series as the show was apparently popular. I found the show to be very truthful,… Read more »
My husband and I just finished watching the AD The Bible Continues. We found it on Netflix yesterday. Couldn’t stop watching it. We loved every second of it. We just learned that this show aired in 2015 and are very surprised that we haven’t heard about it before. We are heartbroken that this series has been canceled.
Thank you Netflix for picking up that show. Please please please continue it.
My husband Larry and I have been so blessed to have found this series on Netflix! Please continue in this most profound work as so many are in need of inspiration! Praise be to God. We will watch no matter what.
I’ll watch no matter what happens ??? Very good for sure tyty !!!
I just found season one on Netflix and I’m very disappointed that there may not be a season two. I didn’t see it on NBC because I never watch regular TV anymore because there is nothing but inane reality shows. It’s about time something of quality came on TV and I am praying that this will continue on Netflix! This is the best thing I’ve seen in years! Thank you Mark and Roma!!!!
I would have liked the series to continue. There’s so much more story to tell. I will definitely watch if/when it is continued.
To bad that it is cancelled.
We would love to see season 2. please update us when it will be back.
Did not see it on NBC, just watched it on Netflix. I enjoyed it and will definitely watch a season 2 if it is produced and shown on another media outlet.
