As expected, NBC has decided not to move forward with a second season of AD: The Bible Continues. The 12 episode mini-series wrapped on June 21st and has now been cancelled.
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Jesus Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the ratings saw severe drops in the weeks that followed. The finale hit a series low with a 0.7 demo and 3.56 million.
Though NBC doesn’t want a second season, the story isn’t over. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two for some time.
Now that NBC has cancelled the show, the producers see it as a tentpole for the launch of OTT. They have been working on the online channel since partnering with MGM to form United Artists Media Group last fall. The online channel is envisioned as a base for faith and religion-based content but won’t be launched until 2016 or 2017.
The castmembers of AD are being released from their contracts because the next incarnation won’t be filmed for awhile. As a result, there may be some recasting when production resumes.
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled this show? Will you watch the next season online when it becomes available or prefer to watch on DVDs. Would you pay to watch this kind of programming?
please find a way to show second season … this is really a great show… U need to finish it … u can’t start something and not finish it … seriously … we need to know how this ended … PLEASE and THANK YOU…
All these networks are evil and are mere puppets. They saw a huge following to the greatest story ever told and canceled for fear people would know the truth. Thank you Netflix for airing the 12 episode series …maybe it will inspire others to also know the truth.
Beautifully directed and cast it’s a shame it had to be cancelled. I was looking forward to Season 2
I’m sad that there are no other seasons coming up. Our family was looking forward to future seasons.
Sorry it was cancelled, I finally found something I was interested in watching even if it had some things I differed with.
When you start a project , you must end it! It is disrespectful for the viewers. Yes… i would definitely want to see Season 2 on Netflix. Make it easy for the viewers. Its like someone taking away your plate while eating.
loved it
I loved the series! the acting was great cast was awesome, but of course in this age of PC and anti-Christian, of course, NBC would cancel!
Just finished Season 1 on Netflix. I wish they would bring it back. I was very disappointed to find no continuation of the show.
Well done. It’s not too late. I’d love to see A.D. continued and continued and continued. I just finished Season 1 on Netflix. I feel cheated. 🙁
Would love to see it continued.
Yes, yes, yes!!! I will watch season two and any others until the story is told.
I loved this show. Very disappointing that it was canceled. It made the bible become alive, it made me realize how tough it was for the first Christians, it made me want to pray more and brought me closer to God. I would definetly pay to see a 2nd season and more.
It was an extremely insightful series. I learned much. It is my desire to see it continue!
I love the AD series, please continue the second series of episodes. Watched it already thrice and continue to get new inspirations every viewing.
I have campaigned for my family, priests
and acquaintances to watch it and do the same as I do, pass on the message. Judy Love ❤️ it.
