It’s the nightmare NBC’s Awake fans were dreading. NBC has cancelled the show after 13 episodes and one season.
Created by Kyle Killen (Lone Star), Awake revolves around a police detective (Jason Isaacs) who, after being in a horrific car accident, finds that he’s living in two realities. In one, his son perished — in the other, his wife did. The cast also includes Laura Allen, Steve Harris, Dylan Minnette, B. D. Wong, Michaela McManus, Wilmer Valderrama, and Cherry Jones.
The complex drama had an unimpressive debut back on March 1st, registering a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.24 million viewers. NBC had released the pilot episode well in advance so some believed that hurt the premiere ratings.

Theoretically the second episode should have shown signs of growth but it didn’t. Week two dropped 20%. Week three remained stable but subsequent weeks saw additional declines. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a dismal 0.7 rating and just 2.15 million viewers.
This season has averaged a 1.1 rating in the demographic with 3.5 million total viewers. Awake is the third-lowest rated drama on the network, beating only Harry’s Law and The Firm (both of which have been cancelled as well). On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, Awake has a “D+” grade.
NBC has now cancelled Awake and the series finale is on track to air Thursday, May 24th. While it wasn’t intended as a series finale, Killen has said that he believes the finale is very satisfying.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Awake has been cancelled and won’t be back for a second season? Was the series too complicated for most TV viewers or did it have other problems?

Figures – decent show and they cancel it. Complicated, I think not… NBC just wants to cater to stupid people watching stupid people doing stupid things. Insane!
Once again……an AMAZING show cancelled to make room for mindless “reality” or “comedy” shows. At least this one made you THINK!!! Unfortunately that was probably it’s downfall. I loved having to watch every second to figure out which clue was going to lead to something in the “mirror” existence. I am really disappointed they killed this show. I also believe the low ratings are attributed to the fact that most of those who used to watch television because it was actually interesting have found other sources of entertainment that is not mind numbing therefore shows like Awake cannot attract a… Read more »
I love “Awake”! It is smart, interesting and exciting. Shame on NBC for not showing commitment to intelligent programming — and viewers.
Awake was a great show. NBC is run by a bunch of clueless ass clowns. Can’t wait for another season of the Big Losers to air. Well done Peacock.
Awake wasn’t GREAT TV but I really liked the cast and it was much better that most of the stuff on network TV. Please reconsider – NBC!
I love AWAKE and very sad to see another good program cancelled. it certainly kept my interest and i could hardly wait to see next show. thanks for nothing.
One of the better shows on TV. Figures it would get axed. Lacks the stupidity of the abundant so-called comedies & reality crap.
This is the second time NBC piss me off with canceling a good show. I thought hey hey finally made it up to after that got rid of Hero’s but no they screwed me again.
Can’t believe Awake is cancelled. One of the best new shows in a long time. I guess we should consider ourselves lucky though that the NBC execs in charge today weren’t there years ago or they would have cancelled such classics as Cheers. Remember that one NBC? Dead last in it’s premier. 77th place out of 77. Please bring back the guys that had some long-term vision.
This show is so good. I am so disappointed they are canceling. I guess they will put some raunchy stupid show with bad language and lots of nudity. Or another reality tv show. Please leave us something good to watch.
“AWAKE” is unquestionably the best show I have seen in a while! Profound, intelligent and masterful in its exploration of life in alternative realities…Surely we, as spiritual beings, need exposure to more shows like this and the the likes of “Touch” to help us reconnect with our source and create a better and deeper understanding of ‘reality’ and transcend the limitations of consciousness!!
BRING AWAKE BACK!!!! Atleast give us one more season to explain everything! I am DONE watching new shows…all the good one’s get cancelled. Sorry that 2 million viewers was not enough… So dissapointing…
No wonder this show failed…let’s see…it had: 1). Intelligent, clever scripts that weren’t predictable 2). Suspense and mystery that kept turning corners on you 3). Intelligent, believable characters with great acting 4). Multi-levels to the story–the mystery of main storyline of how a man can live in two worlds, a back story of corruption that was enfolding, believable, complex relationships between the main character and his wife, his son and his working partners. Yep, sounds like a recipe for an instant cancel–NOT.
Awake and The Firm were great shows. I was so
excited about shows with new concepts. I PVR’d
them every week…reality tv is soooooo boring.
I like to be entertained when I watch tv. These
cancellations are a shame and the network(s)
should reconsider. There are worse shows on tv
than these.
I am very mad about this cancellation. It is a great show and very well written. Just like Missing and Alcatraz.
