Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

I just binge-watched Beowulf. It’s fantastic. It seems that these type shows keep getting cancelled. Old English, hero type programs, shows without a lot of profanity, which quite often appeal to 40 – 60 agers, or fanciful stargazers. These shows spark imagination. We need them. I miss them. Others: October Road, Merlin, Human Target…. I think that Beowulf should be given an opportunity, some time, to be found and enjoyed. Send it to SYFY for a try.

I’m sad they have cancelled Beowolf. It seems the more we have to pay for TV networks the more they cancel shows we like. Maybe we should all stop paying. Maybe the networks would start listening to us.
I loved this show, the actng was great, the humor, the hero saving everyone, showed greed then redemption, great special effects and creatures, I can not believe that they did not renew it. They keep crappy, reality shows on but do not keep a good show like this one. Writer’s just do not want to write creative good tv shows anymore.
I loved this series and very disappointed it was cancelled. I would have watched sooner but didn’t see advertising for it.
Extremely disappointed that Beowolf will not be back! Perhaps if it would be a summer show, more people would watch since good TV is lacking during that time. My vote is for a return!

I was really looking forward to the next season of Beowolf… Great actors, interesting plots, and several ongoing stories. Interestingly enough, I never saw the series advertised. If you’re going to spend that much money on a long (hopefully) series, PROMOTE IT! Hopefully it will get picked up, otherwise another lose.
Not surprised or disappointed by this decision. I stuck with the first series – wanting something different from Game of Thrones and hoping for improvement but it never materialised. The writing was weak, the acting was wooden and I didn’t feel any emotional connection with any of the characters. Ed Speleers (whose pout and hairstyle were the real stars of the show) should have stayed below stairs at Downton Abbey and whilst Kieran Bew tried very hard to be Aragorn, he’s no Viggo Mortensen…

Brilliant show maybe it was shown a bit later it would have attracted a lot more viewers
Loved this show. Especially with the way the world is now. A great show to show we all need to work together. Very disappointed it is cancelled.

I really became a fan of the shoe. The promise of season 2 seems so intriguing. I am very disappointed and hope the next season cancellation will be reconsidered
I am so disappointed this show has been canceled. I rarely watch series on tv but I watch season one twice. It is a shame to cancel such an excellent program. I doubt anything better will take its place. If I had known it would end at season one I would not have started watching it.
If I had known they cancelled it, I wouldn’t have started watching. I am a huge fan of the epic poem, and this was nothing like the epic poem. But it was still interesting to watch.
