Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

They put it in a poor time slot and advertised it almost apologetically

Shame on itv no wonder why losing viewers never see any think throw they don’t see bigger picture don’t give it enough time to get round reason game of thrones is so big because they had bottle to see programme throw I no a lot ppl that have only just jumped on game thrones band wagon things take time I didn’t start watching till about season 4

this show should have returned. It is a lot better than Balck Sails
I won’t agree that it is/was “a lot better than Black Sails”, but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway and really wish that they had renewed it. Beowulf was a solid show, and critics and viewers alike need to stop comparing any show that centers on a fantasy epic with Game of Thrones. All fantasy stories are their own thing, and setting one show as the standard for all fantasy shows is ridiculous. Beowulf was good in its own right.
I just found out about the cancellation! I was already looking at my calendar speculating at what date S2E1 would air and then I read this. So sad. This show was amazing! It seems like the good shows always get cancelled. Only shows around these days are Sci-Fi or horror.
It’s def. ITV’s fault because they didn’t advertise Beowulf at all!

I am sorry to hear it’s cancelled! I have been looking forward to season 2 ! My family and I enjoyed this program, it was fictional but not to mature for family to watch together. Every time we like a show they manage to not renew the next season. Not everyone wants rated RR shows!!!
My wife and I Keep looking for it and i am just learning it was canceled sometime ago. It was no Vikings or Game of Throne, but it was certainly entertaining. Too bad.
Shocked and most saddened I am. Clearly it was airing on the wrong channel.
