Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

We thought it was brilliant, very disappointed its not returning, I think the problem was a sketchy start & of course Game of tThrones
i think your right that it was compared to game of thrones.. i dont know why, its too different storys with swords. but mostly it wasnt advertised well many people didnt know about the show until it was already running on itv
That’s a shame. It even held my husband’s interest. We are both disappointed that it won’t have a second series.
I was looking to see when Season 2 would begin, so disappointed. What a great series! I was so looking forward to more!!

I have just watched series one from start to finish over 2 days , I was totally enthralled , totally gripping series. Just came online to find out when series 2 is going to be aired only to find it has been cut , what a really bad decision from the itv, this could have been the next best thing next to game of thrones, really should have given the program more of a chance ……

Can’t believe it. Great programme. Really disappointed that it’s been shelved. Maybe more promotion and better scheduling would have made it more popular. Can I buy box sets of further episodes
Maybe the producers should peddle Season 1 to a better-watched network and advertise this time.

I loved this show and have been looking forward to the new season. My satellite co.dropped the esquire channel so I looked to where I could find it. I’m really disappointed it’s not coming back. There’s not enough good TV.

i was just looking to see when beowulf was coming back on and see it has been cancelled. DAMN!!! everytime i like something it gets cancelled. i think it was a great show. this is not the first i called a station but it never seems to make a difference.
i believe it’s because of those worthless nielson boxes. only a handfull of people have these boxes and only for a short time. that does not give a correct account of the people watching all our favorite programs only to have them cancelled. HATE THOSE BOXES.
It was an awesome show. When a great show comes out it gets canceled
