Beowulf shall return to the Shieldlands, no more. C21 Media reports ITV has cancelled its Beowulf TV series after the first season. The news that Beowulf would get the axe, first broke in February.
In the US, Beowulf airs on Esquire. A fantasy drama, based on the Old English epic poem, the series stars Kieran Bew in the title role. William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, and Ed Speleers also star.

ITV had high hopes for the £17m (US$23m) adaptation of the epic poem but the programme ultimately failed to achieve high viewing figures.
An ITV spokeswoman told C21 this morning: “ITV regularly refreshes its drama portfolio and consequently Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands isn’t returning to the channel.”

Cannot beleive it’s been cancelled I have been looking forward to a new season all year to not hear anything and had to research to find out that it’s been cancelled.

Any chance the show will be on Netflix or Hulu. Great show. Disappointed it’s not returning.
I just discovered the show and its very sad to hear there will be no second season. I think if it was promoted more like game of thrones was it would have been a hit. It had a good story line and very good characters. I am now left to imagine what will become of them. I hope it gets picked up by another network.

Poorly promoted and given the wrong slot. Sunday teatime isn’t a great time to put a show like this on. It should’ve been given a later slot to maximise viewers. Really disappointed it won’t be returning.
i think itv made a big mistake in cancelling Beowulf. the show had great stories and great characters. the story development speed was perfect, nothing was dragged out for too long. the locations were fitting the time period and the cgi graphics were just right. all the characters were likeable even the demon lady. i think season 2 should be reinstated in the channels roster. season 2 can be played out through other characters eyes for example the demon lady or 1 of the creatures. maybe even ine of the poor folks. so much potential has been untapped with this… Read more »

Just discovered this show and wish there was a season two. Well written, wonderful cast, great costumes and filing. I don’t think we knew about it when it was in season.

Every since the season 1 finale; I’ve been anxiously awaiting season 2. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen. While i was watching beowulf on the esquire channel today i decided to google when season 2 would start and sadly i read that the show has been canceled. I wanted to cry! I love love love this show!! I do believe that one of the main reasons it did not do well in the ratings is because no-one really knew of the shows existence. im in the UK.. alot of UK people didnt know about it either until it was already airing. i found it by chance aswell.. so went online and watched it from episode 1. what a great show!
I loved the show and kept looking for season 2 to start. Very disappointed.

I loved Beowolf
I just spent the day watching season 1 and really enjoyed the shows. I was very sorry to see there would not be a season 2. If there is a chance I would definitely enjoy watching it.
This sucks the big ostrich size egg!….Beowulf was a great series…..i’m sure more people wud have caught on to it had it been promoted better!….piss me off!
Should bring it back. Just watched the first season in two days, found it by accident on sky catch-up. Need more programs like this and to promote it better next time.
