Blue Bloods has now ended its 11th season on CBS, and the season finale could have served as the end of the series. The cop family drama was renewed for a 12th season last month but, in late 2020, showrunner Kevin Wade believed the end might be near.
Wade said the following about the CBS series in an interview with Deadline:
“We were told pretty early on, I think before Thanksgiving that our season finale would be the last two episodes and would air back to back which I immediately took as they’re planning to wrap up the series … So I started to think about how do we do something that could serve as a season finale but also if need be as a series finale.
We went back to the end of the first season where all the Reagans became involved in finding out and catching and bringing to justice the bad cops who killed Joe Reagan who is of course, Joe Hill’s father. And it was kind of a callback to that, just in case it was a series finale it would have a circle to it.”
The finale was completely filmed before news of the renewal was released last month. Blue Bloods will return for season 12 in the fall.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Blue Bloods on CBS? Do you plan to watch the new season next fall? Would the episodes that aired last Friday have satisfied you as a series finale?
Love Blue Bloods, best show ever
My sister and I have been MAJOR fans of Blue Bloods since episode 1. Since I subscribe to HULU and Paramount we did a 1 month marathon (I subscribed to Paramount after finishing the final episode of season 10 on Hulu and we weren’t ready to quit) and now I have started buying the series 1 season a month (decided to buy them for the extras). I can see us both doing Blue Bloods marathons 1, 2, 3 time’s a year for the rest of our lives. We originally started watching because of Tom BUT due to such a WONDERFUL… Read more »

I agree with Cathy, I love Blue Bloods and watch it every week.
I sit down with the family every Sunday.
We love the show. We never miss an episode.
Season finale was perfectly done. It’s nice to know that the producers care about their viewers by presenting what could have been the ending to the series and not leaving any “stone unturned”. Have watched this program from the beginning and have never been disappointed in the story of the Reagans!
I never miss an episode. One of my favorites
Blue Bloods is one of the best cop shows. I feel I’m part of the Reagan family.
Yeah, you are taking off all the good wholesome shows and put on some type of garbage or some kind of animated stuff and it is not right. I love watching this show and you should not take it off leave it alone.
I love Blue Bloods and I am an avid watcher. It’s one of my favorite shows and would hate to see it canceled. CBS has a terrible habit of canceling wonderful shows so this does not surprise me. I truly hope Blue Bloods runs for many more years. Love Tom Selleck.
It’s the best series on TV. I have been an avid watcher since the start and never miss an episode. Long may it continue!
It’s one of the BEST series on tv. I’m sure in the great wisdom or ratings , they will probably end this wonderful show and leave some ridiculous comedy (not funny) on
YES I hope they bring back Blue Blood for another season. One of the best shows on TV. I simply love it!
I couldn’t agree with you more. I cannot stand these new inane sitcoms. Blue Bloods is wonderful.
