ABC may have cancelled Castle, starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, but the story continues, at least in print. According to The Hollywood Reporter, two new Nikki Heat novels, by “Richard Castle,” are about to storm your castle’s bookshelves.
High Heat, to be published October 25, 2016, begins with a the beheading of a New York journalist by an ISIS-like organization. Next, the terrorists target NYPD detective Heat’s husband, Jameson Rook, and his latest subject, independent presidential candidate Legs Kline. Next up is Heat Storm, slated for publication in spring 2017. The books are the eighth and ninth novels in the Castle book series.
Here is more, from THR:
High Heat is the eighth Richard Castle/Nikki Heat novel. The ninth, Heat Storm, is scheduled for spring 2017. Heat Wave, the first of the series, came out in September 2009, six months after the show’s debut. All seven previous Castle novels have made The New York Times bestseller list.
From the beginning, ABC has embraced the fiction that the author of the fictional Nikki Heat books is the fictional Richard Castle, even going so far as to put a picture of Nathan Fillion (as Castle) on the back.
When asked about it in 2009 by Entertainment Weekly, Castle creator Andrew Marlowe said, “Richard Castle [is the writer]. The roguishly handsome best-selling author of the Derek Storm mystery series. He’s charming. He’s a good writer. And I don’t know why you’re trying to take credit away from him. The guy worked hard on it.”
A little Internet sleuthing suggests mystery writer Tom Straw might be the pen behind the Richard Castle nom de plume. Castle fans seem happy to embrace the idea that the books are indeed by Richard Castle and with the TV show going off the air, the books are where it is at now.
The THR report includes part of the first chapter of High Heat. Check it out.
What do you think? Were you a fan of the Castle TV show? Have you read any of the first seven Castle books? Will you check out the new novels, or has way the cancellation played out turned you off?
Love Nathan sorry to see the show end. I will keep reading the books!
I think at the end of 7th novel about Nicki Heat, Jameson Rook just proposed..
Castle was the only TV show that I watched regularly. I guess all I will be watching now is the news, if that.
Nobody wants to see the TV series end. I’ve ben reading the books since the show started airing. Find myself laughing outloud, often, while reading them cause I picture the TV cast in the characters. Glad to know that books are still going to continue! 🙂
I don’t want CASTLE cancelled! Too many shows I LOVE get cancelled and shows I can’t stand like Survivor and The Big Bang Theory stay on.
Please someone clue me in was Mason locksat or Caleb, the ending was unclear. Also what about 3XK. That story line was never esolved. Tyson stole all the police files, and we presume He will come after them again. Can’t we have a half season to resolve that story. Then the show can end with Beckett asking Castle for the name of a decorator and after some appropriate bantor, she tells him it’s not the downstairs she wants to redecorate. She wants to turn Martha’s old bedroom into a nursery, and we can have our happy ending.
Tyson died. Esposito shot him in the chest and killed him and beckett killed Neiman. The way I see it I think Caleb was loksat
I’m sure Loksat was Caleb. 3XK’s story finished in Season Seven. He was killed with a bullet to the head and Kelly Nieman was killed by Beckett. The show already ended with a time jump seven years into the future with their three children; Lily(the oldest), Jake, and Reese(Twin boys).
thanks I must have missed that episode.
