Right on schedule, CBS has decided to ditch their new Friday night TV series, CHAOS, after just a few weeks on the air. The show stumbled in the ratings right from the start and never recovered. It’s no longer on the air but is it cancelled?
A dramatic comedy, CHAOS follows a small group of CIA misfit spies who make up the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (CAOS). In addition to taking on threats to national security, they also must take on redtape and typical government bureaucracy. The TV series stars Freddy Rodriguez, Eric Close, James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson, Carmen Ejogo, Christina Cole, and Kurtwood Smith.
As detailed here, CHAOS debuted to a horrible 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.53 million viewers. That was quite a bit lower than the season average of Medium, a series that CBS cancelled because of poor ratings.
In the second week, CHAOS fell even lower to a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.73 million viewers. Last Friday night, bumped up ever so slightly in the demo, to a 1.0 rating and 5.683 million. Unfortunately, that was far from enough of a gain to save the TV series.
CBS has pulled CHAOS from the schedule effective immediately. This week, a rerun of CSI: NY will fill the timeshot — and probably get better ratings. Next week, the previously scheduled The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty will air. Then, beginning on May 6th, new episodes of Flashpoint will take over.
The network has 10 episodes of CHAOS left sitting on the shelf. CBS hasn’t said if there are any plans to release the unaired installments. Though CHAOS hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, there’s no way that they’ll be renewing it for a second season.
UPDATE: A statement from CBS indicates that the show will return to the schedule at some point in the future.
What do you think? Why did the TV show do so poorly, even by Friday night standards? Will you miss CHAOS?

i liked the show please bring it back
The show was great. A family show.
Can’t believe they cancelled this show! It was funny, Great story line, as well as good acting.. coming in to it’s own. Just a fun show! If time were given this show would of been on top in no time. I looked forward every week to seeing it. I still have it on my DVR.
BRING IT BACK!
Chaos was funny, thrilling and so many of us are tired of the typical reality shows that are flooding the airways. I have had absolutely nothing to watch on tv for the summer except Leverage, Warehouse 13, the Closer and Rizzoli and Isles. Please bring Chaos back.
I really liked the show and hope it comes back. Plots and interplay between characteristics was interesting. CBS, please bring it back.
My husband and I both enjoyed this show and are disappointed it was cancelled. We thought the characters worked well together and we got quite a few laughs from it. Please bring it back!
Bring the show back. It was never given a chance or ever in a good slot. I don’t even remember ever seeing any promo on it.
Great Show, Funny, good cast, started slow, it was not in the right time spot and day, but given a few episodes, it just continued to get better.
This is probably cancelled, but from what I read, it remains to keep me confused ?
We liked it
I Really enjoyed the show, I do not like it when they don’t give a show a chance.. this was a well written well acted show, and I say enough of the silly Reality Shows…give me a show like CHAOS that makes me think..anyday of the week… I am still waiting to find out what happen to ALL my FAV characters from “Vegas” 🙂 just an example of what the networks think is ok!!!!!
We love Chaos! Please bring it back. I’m sick to read it was cancelled. I too hope to see its return soon!
Bring that show back. Very well written, good acting and great plots. Competing in the summer on a Friday night is unfair of CBS. I hope to see its return soon.
I liked the show. It was fun and easy to watch. I get tired of one procedural cop show after another. This one was a little different. It probably would have done better on another channel in another time slot, but far be it from tv executives to allow a show to “catch on,” especially those on the major networks, to allow an audience to build. It was a good show with a lot of good actors, but it didn’t have a chance on Friday nights just as the weather was warming enough for people to go outside in the… Read more »
Bring it back. I want to see all the episodes. I’m getting very tired of liking a show only to have it cancelled. Why can’t some cable channel pick it up, promote it and put this quality show back on the air? Please do the same with The Good Guys.
it was a great show. Sorry the producers dropped the show. They should have put in on at 8 pm on a weekday. It was a fun show. With so many dumb shows on the air they dropped the one that I liked. My favorite shows are NCIS, NCIS LA, Criminal minds, CSI, Bones, Closer etc. The producers didn’t give the show a chance to catch on. The producers need to understand that not all of us like dancing with the stars or reality shows.
