CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.
The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.
Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?
Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.
But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?
Please do not cancel this show, I like Body of Proof very much, so I DVR one or the other and watch it later. The show is very interestin g with the internal brotherhood siktuations and it has great stars, Just for yuour information, I actually made an album on my facebook of Theo James, I amsmittten with him and his beautiful lips and body. Love this show!!!
I love watching a lot of shows on CBS but the TV (HDTV) reception is so bad over the air, that watching any show, Golden Boy, NCIS, NCIS/LA and so on is painful so much that I have to watch it in line. If CBS wants better ratings FIX the problem with over the air HDTV, none of the other channels have this problem or as much as one. For every 1 good minute I have to wait another 5 to watch it or miss it. (CBS2) in Los Angeles, CA Don’t blame the show if people can’t watch it… Read more »
Golden Boy shows great promise for a new series,,, the ratings were perhaps lower because of play0ffs. The teaser of showing Michael Madsen was good! Women love him Chi Mcbride and of course Theo !!!!..
Don’t cancel!
Golden Boy is my 2nd favorite show, only Scandal rates higher! What is wrong with these people wanting to take an Awesome show off but leave Honey Boo Boo and Carlot Makeover and 2 Broke Girls on, I mean REALLY!!! What is TV coming to for God Sakes!! Renew
Renew. I really like Golden Boy. We’ve lost so many good shows lately lets keep this one.
I actually like Golden Boy but it does seem more of a Friday night show than a Tuesday one. I’m hoping that they will renew even though it is becoming a long shot.
