CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.
The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.
Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?
Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.
But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?
I have been eagerly looking for the new season of Golden Boy and just found out it has been cancelled. I think CBS should reconsider this decision. The Story Line is outstanding, the cast is strong, and the writers have so much room to build a story line for all of the characters. The twist and turns for Clarks rise to the top could go on for many season to come. Other shows have done much worse in the beginning and when many of them have been given the chance the viewership has gone up. Maybe CBS should take a… Read more »
Finally get a really good show not given a chance really wanted to see what happens there were worse shows that should have been cancelled hope another network picks the show up CBS made another wrong decision
Please don’t cancel Golden Boy. My family loves it.
Please do NOT cancel Golden Boy ! It is the best cop show on T.V. All the cast members are great and it all works so well . There are so many shows that dont live up to this one . I have watched all of it and really enjoy every episode . I don’t know how you can keep some others on that are beneath watching and cancel such a great one like Golden Boy .Please reconsider keeping it for another season or two or three , i would watch them all . Please don`t cancel !!! I hope… Read more »
CBS is a horrible network and they just get worse as time goes on! Golden boy had so much room for growth and character development. CBS always takes the easy way out by dumping shows that have depth, diversity and real life comparisons.
Terrible decision to cancel this show. Only once in the last ten years have I been as disappointed, when Fox cancelled Keen Eddie. Amazed that networks are always terrified to go away from their bland, formulaic retreads. Golden Boy had a great cast, good script with plenty of room to branch out in interesting avenues, and is, or was much better than 90% of the shows on the major networks. A growing majority doesn’t care if the kid ******** up their order in the drive through can sing or dance. They also don’t care if an overpaid “celebrity” or athlete… Read more »
Why does TV cancel every show that is intelligent and WORTH watching and leave the stuff for morons! Please reconsider and bring this show back – so much better than the same old, same old cop shows that have been running for too many years!! Fresh, new, good acting and plots – what the heck more can I say. It was not in the best time slot and still I was a die hard fan – CBS is totally out of touch w/it’s viewers!!
I was sooo disappointed at CBS decision to cancel Golden Boy. Please bring it back. Give it another season. I love this show. The plots are intriguing and acting is superb.
A Big fan
Noooo,,,CBS stop cancelling the shows we like. Golden Boy grew on us rapidly, up there with Person of Interest. A great cast and stroies. Please bring it back, like Unforgettable! We’re looking forward to that one coming back too. Young people spend so much time doing other things, I hardly think their viewership should be more important than settled families that watch TV every night. We love a lot of your shows, CSI NY, Blue Bloods , Mentalist, Mike and Molly and Vegas. Come on, rethink this please. why don’t you cancel the foul Comedies you have on Mondays? Leave… Read more »
I was hoping they would change their minds and renew this show. Great show..great actors!! Much worse shows are still on the air!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!!
best cop show and only good show on cbs on tuesday nights. please bring this show back. lot of potential plots to explore.
Golden Boy was a well written drama with fresh (and experienced) actors). We watched every episode (except the last one). It became useless to watch with all the talk of cancelation. It used to be that a show would be given a chance to develop a following. Not so much now. You say it was not trending with a certain viewer group. Maybe you need to re-evaluate the age group that has disposable income. In the future, public talk about cancelation should be held up until a decision is really made. It drives the ultimate conclusion. Anyway, this show will… Read more »
This show is very good along with Jersey Girl. The top 2 detectives can do the show in a bathroom and still be riveting. The ending was so good I couldn’t believe they would put so much effort in a show that was dead. Bring it back and keep it on the same time and day.
It’s the best dramatic series on the air. Hopefully, one of the cable channels i.e. TNT or USA will pick it up if CBS makes the wrong decision.
The first cop sitcom I really enjoy. Great plot good actors. There are shows much worse than that one! Really hoping it doesn’t get cancelled 🙁
