CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.
The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.
Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?
Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.
But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?
This is a well written, well acted and well cast show that needs a bit more time to find it’s niche. CBS has pulled the trigger too fast before and doesn’t seem to realize that working with the programmers and getting feedback from the audience is key to success. This show is very well liked and the social media have been showing that from the start.
Please renew. Love the characters and want Golden Boy to continue!!
RENEW! LOVE this show! Golden Boy is my favorite show airing right now. All the actors are excellent and it gets better and better every week. I say CBS should show it earlier and/or move it to a different night but it’s definitely a keeper!
This is one of the better law enforcement series I’ve seen in awhile. The best is “Southland” and it to may be cancelled by TNT, after having been cancelled by NBC some 5 years ago. “The Golden Boy” will probably be cancelled also and that will disappoint me. Shows are not given a chance to grow anymore. Many of the most successful shows of the past were given a chance. I didn’t even hear of the show “The Big Bang” theory until its 3rd year. Now it is a hugely popular show with growing viewership. It was given a chance… Read more »
Please don’t tell me Southland is going to be cancelled. It is right up there with Golden Boy. OMG.
I love this show. The acting is among the best Ive ever seen on TV and the plot keeps me wanting more to see how he ends up as commisioner and sadly what happens to rest of the cast since they dont appear in the flash forwards, brilliant. This had better get renewed. POI is losing it’s charm and some silly execution makes the story less intense…with how somber the flash forwards are doesnt seem GB would be ever be silly in the way POI has sometimes been.
This is a very good show. It deserves another season. Remember Mad Men when it first started? The viewership was low, but now it is being touted as one of the best dramas ever on TV. I will be very disappointed if Golden Boy does not return.
please, renew Golden Boy, this the best police drama ever
Terrible lead actor. Show should be cancelled.
This is one of the VERY BEST shows on TV…..please CBS bring it back for one more season and give it a good time slot…..
RENEW!!!
Don’t cancel!!! We love this show!! We watch it EVERY week!
I love Golden Boy. Great casting, great acting and Theo James is an awesome actor. Has his own style. Please don’t cancel this show.
Renew. Even if you have to move it to Friday night. Just don’t lose it!
Theo James and Chi McBride are great. I’m really enjoying learning about Walter Clark’s (Theo James) backstory–his parents and sister. Unfortunately the supporting characters, Arroyo and McKenzie, just aren’t interesting to watch. I’m not sure if it’s poor casting or storyline or both.
Give the show a chance! This is a great show. Perhaps we shouldn’t have been told up front it would take 7 years to get where we want to go but this is a great cast and the show has a lot of promise. Maybe people like to run marathons of shows like this and are recording the episodes. Give the show another season and kick the writers in the butt to give us a meatier story each week or give us more about Walter as commissioner
