CBS’ Golden Boy was originally supposed to run on Friday nights but its first few episodes did well enough for CBS to leave the series on Tuesdays. Has it been a success? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Golden Boy follows the story of Walter William Clark Jr. (Theo James), a young and ambitious New York cop who quickly rises through the ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in the Big Apple’s history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.
The police drama debuted to a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.56 million viewers. While the total viewership was healthy, CBS really needs their new shows to attract younger viewers. Still, a 1.8 rating was better than what Vegas had been raking in.
Golden Boy’s numbers fell in the next two weeks and it looked like the show was doomed to be cancelled. But then, the demo started to perk up and rose to a 1.7 rating. Perhaps there was hope after all?
Unfortunately, that hope was short lived and Golden Boy’s ratings quickly fell again. Last night’s episode hit new lows and attracted just a 1.2 demo rating with 6.99 million viewers.
Based on the ratings, it looks almost certain that Golden Boy won’t be back for another season and we won’t get to see the rest of Clark’s journey to greatness.
But, what do you think? Are you hoping that CBS still renews Golden Boy or should the timeslot be filled by something else? Is it worth watching?
I think the time slot really hurts this shows ratings. I don’t think very many shows that start on 9CT on Tuesdays have very much of a chance to do well. This show is very well written, the acting is d@mn good. I have actually began to feel sorry Arroyo (a character that I dispised after the 1st couple episodes). This show can go so many different directions. If CBS drops it, I hope another network takes a chance on it, and gives it a more appropriate time slot. It will make all the difference.
Can’t find where our remarks went, but we heartily vote KEEP GOLDEN BOY. It is one of the few good shows left on CBS, if they ignore the public, they are making a big mistake.
I agree completely! I love this show!
PLEASE, renew Golden Boy. It’s one of the few good shows left on TV.
this is a great show with a great cast! will be very disappointed if it gets cancelled!
I hope this show is renewed. The concept is a good one, the stories are compelling and the relationships between the characters show growth and depth. Put is in a good time slot and leave it there. Let it find its audience. Renew it.
this is a great show with a suspenseful story line, that goes years into the future which all of the fans would love to see play out. I love this show and hope they give it another season to gain more viewers.
my wife loves this show, and I think Chi McBride is great! they could fine tune a little and it would be a solid hit
Great show. Do the networks realize that the demographics in this country have changed with more older folks and fewer younger ones. Their numbers are going to continue to drop for total viewership if they don’t start catering to those of us over 55.
This is just a wonderful new show. all it needs is another season to find its audience.
If it can’t be justified to bring back in the Fall 2013/2014 season, why not program it in the mid season replacement category or progam it for the summer season like Unforgetable.
Love this show. Like the 7 year span with both timeframes in each segment. I LOVE COP shows, but this one is truly special.
Please renew. Remember; FOX almost cancelled ‘Seinfeld’ after its first season because of low ratings and that show went on be one of the longest-running sitcoms. Networks need to give new and interesting shows with well-written scripts more of a chance. This is why we have almost nothing but shallow, fame-seeking reality-TV contestants clogging the networks.
keep Golden Boy,best cop show.
Please renew Golden Boy. Love this show. It’s very well done. Amazing cast and this cop show is different from all the rest. I will so miss it, if it doesn’t make another season.
If this show gets cancelled, CBS has absolutely no respect for its viewers. You do not start a show on a premise that it is this big mystery, where each episode creates more questions than answers, if you don’t intend to follow through. Millions of people have committed themselves to a story-line and are relying on the authors to tell the whole story and give us the satisfaction of a climax and ending. If you have no ambition for a long drama, don’t start it! At least continue it on the internet… At 99 cents and episode? Just don’t drop… Read more »
