While fans of Magic City are understandably upset by the show’s cancellation, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht recently explained that the decision wasn’t a difficult one when it came to finances.
At the TCA press tour, he said, “It was a fine show but it was extremely expensive. It had decent audience but distributors weren’t interested in co-marketing it with us, and we felt season two had a pretty reasonable and satisfying landing spot.”
Magic City revolves around the world of Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel in 1959. The TV series stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, and Danny Huston, with Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, Jessica Marais, Yul Vazquez, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Kelly Lynch, and Elena Satine.
What do you think? Did you like Magic City? Would you liked to have seen a third season?
I was just on the internet looking for the summer schedule for MAGIC CITY. I AM SHOCKED the 3rd season is not in the works. I wish the execs would reconsider.
Intelligent script, fabulous setting, nostalgic cars/clothing, insightful acting, dramatic turns = canceled show. STARZ really knows their stuff.
This show was the next best thing to getting a pay check there is nothing exciting on TV anymore but ******** reality TV with a bunch of fighting women start the campaign now bring it back asap
I loved the show, the acting, the action and the suspense.
I wish all the actors much future success
I loved the show and its characters. The season closed leaving us with unfinished situations. Isn’t that just like so many other scenarios…you love something and then it’s taken away! Teasers! LOL 😉 Very disappointing. It was a great show while it lasted. Thanks for the memories. lol
What a shame to cancel Magic City! The look and feel of the fifties was pretty spot on.
The actors were terrific and so was the script. I am so upset to not see it coming back.
I loved Magic City I am so disappointed that they are not going to do series 3 it was a very very good show. like at another channel pick it up so we can have a new season
This was quality viewing & the best series to be aired in some time. What class, what elegance, and what a story line! Superb. That’s probably why it was cancelled – because it was intelligent. and classy. Probably will be replaced by some reality series for mindless morons. Boo Starz. Guess we loyal fans will move on to the next thing to be cancelled without notice. Viewers are expected to be loyal but certainly don’t receive the same in return.
What I can’t believe this loved this show the actors were perfect shame on you Starz big mistake HUGE
I loved Magic City and I would loved to have seen a third season. I see no reason to continue to pay these astronomical prices for the premium channels when they do not offer anything original. It takes forever to see a new movie so I think I’d rather use pay per view every once in a while than continue to pay these prices.
So disappointed by the decision not to bring Magic City back for another season. Loved the show and think they must not have exhausted all their ROI options; decision seems half-baked to trash such a good series.
What a terrible decision to cancel Magic City. Truly sucks. I just found it. Maybe if you advertised your shows more people would know they’re on. Fantastic show. Big mistake to cancel. There’s not much reason to even keep subscribing to Starz.
Magic city was the best. Please bring back and continue. Bought season one and two on DVD for Christmas. You let us hanging. Come on smarten up!!!!
this was best show after two and half man, all other sucks! hate vampires and stupid Starz
When you have a winner and a certain draw to your channel and simply cannot recognize the financial implications of success perhaps it’s time to disappear. One terrific show like MAGIC CITY is the only reason to watch STARZ. The anticipation of a new 3ird season was so exciting. The nostalgia and the drama of the show was fabulous. All I can say is goodbye to Starz as you retreat back in wasteland.
