While fans of Magic City are understandably upset by the show’s cancellation, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht recently explained that the decision wasn’t a difficult one when it came to finances.
At the TCA press tour, he said, “It was a fine show but it was extremely expensive. It had decent audience but distributors weren’t interested in co-marketing it with us, and we felt season two had a pretty reasonable and satisfying landing spot.”
Magic City revolves around the world of Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel in 1959. The TV series stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, and Danny Huston, with Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, Jessica Marais, Yul Vazquez, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Kelly Lynch, and Elena Satine.
What do you think? Did you like Magic City? Would you liked to have seen a third season?
I can”t believe you could cancel this show, it was my favorite, all of my friends watch it, I don’t think it could be the finances, everyone I know loved the show.
I will not see any shows on this network again I do not trust them, they will cancel the series when they want to and we’re left hanging. What a shame.
Really great show. Would like to see it back on. This is the reason I got cable in the first place.
I really enjoyed watching this show. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is one of my favorite actors out there. The whole cast were amazing as well. It seems like every-time you start to like a show or get into a show, well it’s taken off the network. This is one show I will truly miss. I mean, I had my husband, mother, sister, & friends that all enjoyed this show. It would be really nice if they decided to just bring it back. After all, the fans miss it. So why not.
My fiancé and I loved, loved, loved this show! And was very upset and angry with starz, from what im reading from some of you, they seem to cancel all their good shows! Starz, you will never have our business again!
magic city I really liked the show and surprised it didn’t have a bigger following.i’m going to miss it.it reminded a little of the godfather movies.
My wife and I enjoy Magic city and felt it was a nice follow up to the spartucus series we are very disappointed with this decision we both were really looking forward to this season what will adults watch these days more pirates and dragons….
This is such crap!!! I have been waiting and waiting, checking and checking for when this season is starting, it was on my top 3 FAVORITE shows!!! There are so many others shows I am sure that are better off been canceled to fund this one!!! Whoever made this decision sucks ass! You killed a GREAT SHOW!
Very disappointing to learn of this show being cancelled “Magic City”
This was won of my Favorites on any network.
These people are crazy. I agree with everyone else about how great of shows Boss and Magic City are. Their actions are exactly why Starz will never be able to compete with HBO. Every one knows you have to spend money to make money.
I agree with John and JKSH. BOSS was one of my favorite shows. Kelsey Grammer won a Golden Globe Award as the ruthless mayor of Chicago. When they cancelled BOSS I was done with STARZ. So over the weekend I decided to catch up on Magic CIty on Demand. Right at the last episode my bro-in law said it was cancelled. I followed up and ssure enough! So STARZ I AM DONE! you should stop trying to win Fridays cause you can’t. If you don’t know how to program good TV series then save your money and get out the… Read more »
Bad decision. Best show ever. Only reason I have maintained STARZ is because of Boss and Magic City. Have been waiting for the new seasons. Now can cancel my subscription to STARZ for good reason.
My husband & I hate they cancelled this show. We loved watching it together.
It was a great show, you shouldn’t have canceled it.
Well nothing else on starz to watch i can save the subscription fee. WTF this was a good show.
Frankly, I’m canceling Starz and never going back. The network canceled Party Down, then Camelot, now Magic City. The network is run by cheap people who aren’t interested in satisfying viewers. Everything is driven through the prism of dollars and cents, but the problem with that is that the brand loses loyalty when they pull these shows after people invest in them. It’s especially disturbing how they don’t even have the courtesy to provide a final episode for series closure as a viewer. It’s like reading every book 3/4 of the way through and never being able to finish. Anticlimactic… Read more »
