NBC has decided to yank their freshman sitcom Perfect Couples from the schedule after April 7th. It’ll be replaced by The Paul Reiser Show on Thursday nights. Does this mean that Perfect Couples is canceled and gone for good?
Perfect Couples revolves around three young couples. Dave (Kyle Bornheimer) and Julia (Christine Woods) are the “everyday couple,” who are messed up in all the “normal” ways. Vance (David Walton) and Amy (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) are the high-passion, high-drama couple. Rex (Hayes MacArthur) is a reformed party guy and Leigh (Olivia Munn) is a self-anointed relationship guru who considers it her duty to mold the other couples in their image.
The NBC sitcom has been struggling in the ratings from the beginning. The network gave it viewers a sneak peak in December and that generated a terrible 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.56 million viewers. A month later, the second episode brought a mediocre 2.1 rating and 4.15 million. The numbers quickly started falling and the latest episode hit a low of a 1.2 rating.
The whole season of Perfect Couples currently averages a 1.5 rating in the demo and just 3.27 million viewers. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network by far and even The Cape has a better season average. Bornheimer has committed to a new FOX pilot while Walton has signed on for a new NBC one.
So, no, NBC has not cancelled Perfect Couples officially, there are many very strong indications that it won’t be back next season. NBC has no incentive to bring it back and even cast one of the sitcom’s actors in one of their new shows.
Right now, it looks like there will be four unaired episodes of Perfect Couples. They may or may not see the light of day at a later date.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Perfect Couples go? Do you think that it still has a chance to return for a second season?
Mad about you=BORING!!!!! Perfect couples=hilarious!!!!!! Please tell me this isn’t really happening!!!!! I need to go to my happy place!!!!! Wake me up when this nightmare is OVER!!!!!
Who ever made the decision to cancel Perfect couples needs to get their head checked because it’s an excellent show!!!!!! It needs another chance!!!!
I agree with Ben. This was by far one of the best new shows in years. It was so funny and so true of a lot of couples these days. My husband and I would laugh out loud often. The dead oppossum was the best:) Worst Week was also a great show that was cancelled. I guess if it isn’t about a bunch of drama desperate tv star, reality show wannabes, it doesn’t make it.
I really hope the network reconsiders!!!!! Behind 30 Rock this show has the best writing on TV!!!!!! If the network has ANY sense they we rethink their VERY poor decision!!!!!!!
This is ridiculous, Perfect couples is one of the best shows on TV!!!!! I can’t believe they are pulling it for Paul Reiser!!!!
LOVE this show!!! I can’t believe they are going to cancel it. It was definately one of my favorites on the Thursday night line-up!!
Funny show.. Paul Reiser is a relic… You cancel a funny show for some old fart that wont be funny or fresh. You have Olivia Munn, what else do you need.
I just don’t get it. How do Survivor, Idol, and Loser get renewed for countless seasons yet a well-written and funny show with an endearing cast like this get cancelled?!?!?! I just don’t get this country.
It was so refreshing to find a show about couples that are already married (most of them) and don’t have kids. So rare. My wife and I will miss this show very much. We didn’t even know it was on until we just stumbled upon it! NBC did a horrible job of promoting it!
Great Show. Simple, silly, light-weight.
Sad to see it go, but knew it would happen.
This show cracked me up and why replace is with Paul Reisner????? Reisner was terrible in mad about you and will be terrible in his new show!!! Couples was something different and hilarious,……bring it back and give it more then what 7 episodes of a chance
So they replace this AWESOME show with a Paul Riser vehicle? MY GOD! I think that is the true sign of the apocalypse. I don’t think I could be more offended by the replacement of a cancelled show unless they said Rosie O’Donnell was involved. This was easily one of the best shows on TV. The Man cave with the 70’s german porn, the racoon, the wedding dress, the pirate bit, all of it, just fantastic. I believe Dave (the actor?) was in an NBC show last year or the year before that was also cancelled (Worst Week..thank you IMDB),… Read more »
Couldn’t agree with you more… Kyle Bornheimer (Dave) is hilarious! Loved him in Worst Week Ever as well. Feel bad for the poor guy, he definitely has comedy star potential.
Ben you could not be more spot on. Its like TV is trying to ruin itself, including NBC. I wish I could say who the hell is Paul Riser, but sadly for me I have seen him accost and assualt comedy all too many times before. It would be bad enough if they were giving this less than has-been a show in a time slot at 2:00am, but instead they are putting his show in place of a very funny and amusingly quirky program involving relatively young actors with great on screen chemistry so that a bitter, whiny old man… Read more »
This was one of the better new shows! I can’t believe that they are considering canceling Perfect Couples. It is LOL funny!!
What a stinker of a show. What is the head of comedy at NBC drinking/smoking/snorting, cause if they’re gonna try and sell us this pablum, they need to share.
NO!! This show was great! Don’t cancel Perfect Couples!!
I loved this show! And what the others said was right, it did make you actually laugh out loud. The writing was witty and interesting. I loved the characters. Please NBC bring it back.
