Earlier today, ABC announced the premiere dates for two new shows — The Quest (Thursday, January 2nd) and Resurrection (Sunday, March 9th).
In addition, the network notes that several returning shows — Grey’s Anatomy, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Revenge, and Scandal — will take extended mid-season breaks so there won’t be as many repeats.
Here are the details:
ABC ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATES FOR NEW MIDSEASON DRAMA “RESURRECTION,” ALONG WITH NEW ALTERNATIVE SERIES “THE QUEST”
Continuing Its Commitment to a Split Season Strategy, the Network Also Announced Spring Premieres for Key Returning Series Which Will Run with Few or No Repeats
Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, today announced the premiere dates for new midseason series “Resurrection” and “The Quest,” along with spring premiere dates for key returning series, now structured into split seasons to allow for fewer or no preemptions or repeats.
New drama “Resurrection” will premiere on Sunday, March 9 at 10:00 p.m., ET, taking over the timeslot for “Betrayal” when that show’s season concludes. New alternative series “The Quest” will debut on Thursday, January 2 with a special two-hour premiere from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ET, moving into the timeslot held by “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,” following its season finale.
Continuing the network’s commitment to the split season strategy announced at this year’s Upfront presentation, key returning series “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Nashville,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Revenge” and “Scandal” will return in the spring, following their winter finales, with all new episodes that will run with few or no repeats to their season finales in May.
Below are ABC’s spring premiere dates for the 2013-14 season, along with the newly announced midseason premieres (in bold). All times listed are ET. The returning series’ winter premiere dates will be announced at a later time.

What do you think? Do you like ABC’s plan for split seasons?
I just do not understand how some decisions are made. Sponsors vs. Views? I do not know.
Who is making these foolish decisions, some kind of chimps?
I really hate split seasons. I wish Resurrection could remain on all year. Just when it
was getting really interesting, poof, it was gone. Really smart programming. Now
I will probably be interested in something else if ABC ever wakes up and brings it back.
Then after a few episodes, the new replacement show will be gone.
What happened to the Quest? Have the shelved it or are they still planning on airing it?
Now u know how we Fallers felt.
No I hate split seasons and THAT’s why GOOD shows get cancelled. It’s SIMPLE psych 101, people are creatures of habit when they can’t watch their usual comfort/escapist show they find another and then you exec are like “Why are the ratings dropping?!” THAT’s why we want stability in TV cause we can’t get it in life. DUH!
I hate split seasons. Give me 25 episodes a year with only small breaks. The smaller seasons and long breaks that have become typical, suck. Half the time I can’t even remember what was going on after these small runs with big breaks.
