A couple weeks ago, ABC officially cancelled their freshman TV show, FlashForward. Though it got off to a good start in the fall, the show’s ratings declined fairly steadily throughout the season. Like many ongoing serials that are end before their time, the last episode of FlashForward left many questions unanswered.
In the FlashForward series, the world’s population passes out unexpectedly for 137 seconds and has a vision of a future date. The series features a large ensemble cast that includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, Christine Woods, Genevieve Cortese, Dominic Monaghan, Gabrielle Union, Lee Thompson Young, Ryan Wynott, Barry Shabaka Henley, and Lennon Wynn.
Fans of the series have been trying to get the network to reverse its cancellation decision and are now planning an unusual demonstration on the show’s behalf. In addition to sending calendars, friendship bracelets (similar to the one Fiennes’ character wears), and letters to the network, they plan to stage blackouts in front of ABC network offices and affiliate stations across the country — for 137 seconds.
The pretend blackouts are planned for June 10th and will take place in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, and Atlanta. And, though they don’t have ABC network locations to target, fans in various countries around the world — Canada, England, Spain, Italy, Germany — are also planning similar demonstrations.
Ultimately, the networks care about ratings (something FlashForward was sorely lacking) but this demonstration is sure to get their attention. It’s highly unlikely that ABC will reverse its decision to cancel the series but hopefully they will be persuaded to give the series some sort of closure.
What do you think? Do you believe that ABC can be persuaded to bring FlashForward back for season two? Would you be satisfied with anything less? Perhaps a TV movie or an additional episode to wrap things up?
I just watched like ~18 episodes that I had on my DVR and now I look online to see when the new season starts and I find out it has been cancelled! I am so upset. If I had known this I would have never bothered watching all those episodes I had saved on my DVR. What a waste of my time!
ABC you cancelled Flashfoward and you leave that reality garbarge on hey ehere are plenty of us older viewers that this show. !!!!
Happy Town, Legend of the Seeker and Flashforward have been canceled, come on ABC your killing me!
I was an avid Lost fan and was looking forward to Flashforward filling the void left behind by the end of Lost. Please bring the show back and if you have to cancel it at least give it an appropriate ending!
I’ve just heard that Flashforward won’t be back and I’m devastated. I’m only just getting over the loss of Lost (no pun intended) and Flashforward was a really intelligent alternative.
I’m really disappointed. There is so much tedious reality TV shows on nowadays that it was great to see real acting by real actors in a real show. Who cares about top models, house makeovers etc? too much of them on tv anyway.
At this rate, I think I’ll be better giving up on TV and going back to the cinema.
ABC….I’m very disappointed in your decision to cancel…give the show a chance!
i am in love with the show and and sooo disappointed with the cancellation…
us fans from saudi arabia love 2 c season 2 of the show
Come on!!!! ABC takes a almost 2 month hiatus on Flashforward then cancels it for dismal ratings. They shoot themselves in the foot by not giving it a full season before they did the hiatus. At least give us some closure!!!!!!!
I am sick of ABC getting people interested in shows and then cancelling them before the first season ends. At least give us an ending I plan on boycotting all ABC shows
I was severely disappointed with yet another cancelled ABC show. My husband and I loved FLASH FORWARD as well. First ABC cancels FLASH FORWARD which obviously could go for another season. And then ABC cuts Happy Town without an ending, and after only then decides to give the final 2 episodes online but makes it only available to the U.S. What about the REST OF US!!!! Don’t we deserve to see the final 2 episodes too!!!!! What’s with that???? I don’t get it. Please put BOTH OF THESE SHOWS BACK ON ABC.
I’m a real fan and am continually frustrated at the entworks pulling these shows! Firefly is a case in point. Would be happy with a telemovie or short series to answer some of the questions at the end of the series
fans in germany would love to see more of this fantastic show!!!!!
Dear ABC managment
The Flash forward was one of the series which put me glued on the seat while watching and without a single blink of an eye. I was extremely shocked with your decision of cancellation of airing of its second season.
The ideology of the writer behind the series was excellent and will persuade others to think what dreams really meant in life and what could be the alternate possibilities depending upon the chosen path.
It is requested to change ur decision and put this show on air.
What in the world is going on, first I hear about Happy Town and now Flash Forward? I am definitly sticking to FOX! What about the couple millions of people that deserve a proper ending or second season for all the time they’ve spent being loyal to their shows?
A movie would help to answer the questions left by the season 1 cliffhanger, but ideally a season 2 would be best. With “Lost” off the air now, “Flashforward” is the next best thing! I’m disappointed to see that ABC won’t be giving this show a chance to hold it’s own.
