What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on Freeform, Switched at Birth follows Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) and Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano). Their lives are turned upside after Bay discovers that, as babies, they were sent home from the hospital with the wrong families. A family drama, Switched at Birth explores early adulthood, blended families, and deaf culture. It also includes scenes shot entirely in American Sign Language. In addition, the cast includes Lea Thompson, Constance Marie, Sean Berdy, D.W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, and Giles Marini. Marlee Martin guest stars.
Season Five Ratings
The fifth season of Switched at Birth averaged a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 501,000 viewers. Compared to the fourth season, season five was down by 51% in the demo and down by 51% in viewership. Learn how Switched at Birth stacks up against other Freeform TV shows.

Telly’s Take
I must admit, when Freeform confirmed Switched at Birth season five would be the final installment — it surprised me. Even though its ratings fell in season four, the critically acclaimed drama is still one of the cabler’s top shows. I suspect Freeform decided to cancel (or end) Switched at Birth due to a combination of slipping ratings, diminishing returns, and because of the tone of the show. When Switched at Birth first premiered, the channel was still known as “ABC Family.” Since rebranding, Freeform has tried to promote edgier content.
In my opinion, that rebranding is the reason for the long delay between Switched at Birth‘s fourth and fifth seasons: Freeform didn’t know where the show fit. In addition, cast member contract options often expire after five seasons. A series renewal would probably require a new round of negotiations and hence, more money. Finally, Switched at Birth ran long enough to produce a good sized syndication package. All that said, while I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, I suspect chowing down on Switched at Birth will induce regret-fueled heartburn. RIP.

I finally started watching switched at birth after Katie Leclerc ‘s Dad told me about her and the show. I binge watched all 100+ episodes and loved every single one. I rooted for Bay and Emette to end up realizing their love was so beautiful and amazing, they just had to mature to get it right. I looked forward to all of the characters. Just watched the final show. I really loved the characters, I hope that it will come back soon. I loved that Freeform touched many subjects and topics. I love how the family always comes together even in the midst of storms. This is a really good show
I found Switched at Birth in the middle of a hard semester at college…I fell in love with it!! I was so very disappointed when there were no more seasons. There is still many things to write about. If Freeform changed to a more racey scenario, than spice up the following seasons. Please bring it back!! I use it as a reward to myself for doing well on college assignments.

I really enjoyed this show got sad when it ended the way it did. I was hoping to see how things continued to go. I have enjoyed watching all the seasons and episodes. Like I said I was hoping to see more and watch at least one more season more if possible. Thank you so much

Hey I just wanted to say I really enjoy this show..never heard of this show until I brought Netflix a week ago..5 seasons 15+ episodes in each. I have finished watching all 5 seasons in a week. I have a job and two kids babies at That so don’t think I’m just sitting around all day. I have did all nighter, been late to work just to finish watching an episode …I’m addicted to this show I really hope to see season six please.

PLEASE RENEW!!! NEED MORE DAPHNE & BAY & EMMET! Ratings problem dropped Bc or wrong time slot try to find a better time that doesn’t conflict with hit shows and air it!! This show is addicting!
Please continue with season 6. It really touches lives. Not only for the deaf community but also for the hearing. What a better way to show people what deaf people struggle with everyday.
I would really like to see a season 6of switch at birth. Now I really not in to shows like this one but I really like switch at birth. But when I started watching Switched at Birth I seen a great show. Please don’t stop it.
I just found out about the show an watched all 5 seasons in a week an there’s alot of unanswered questions the show should continue even if for one more season so it can end without all the units answered questions
I’m craving more. There’s so much to spin off of. Will or rather keon being raised by Regina, Bay, her art career, and her relationships with Travis and Emmett, Daphne continuing to break the mold of becoming a deaf doctor and her relationship with Mingo, Melody taking in Matthew, Toby and his new inspired career while living in the guest house with his family etc.
They can not leave us like this. they need a season 6.ASAP!! We need too find out how Daphne and bingo are gonna be. and cartoons lifw. We still need more!! Switched at birth now, switched at birth forever.!!! Make a season six. Immediatley!! I am in awe of this show, and I want more!!
