What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on Freeform, Switched at Birth follows Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) and Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano). Their lives are turned upside after Bay discovers that, as babies, they were sent home from the hospital with the wrong families. A family drama, Switched at Birth explores early adulthood, blended families, and deaf culture. It also includes scenes shot entirely in American Sign Language. In addition, the cast includes Lea Thompson, Constance Marie, Sean Berdy, D.W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, and Giles Marini. Marlee Martin guest stars.
Season Five Ratings
The fifth season of Switched at Birth averaged a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 501,000 viewers. Compared to the fourth season, season five was down by 51% in the demo and down by 51% in viewership. Learn how Switched at Birth stacks up against other Freeform TV shows.

Telly’s Take
I must admit, when Freeform confirmed Switched at Birth season five would be the final installment — it surprised me. Even though its ratings fell in season four, the critically acclaimed drama is still one of the cabler’s top shows. I suspect Freeform decided to cancel (or end) Switched at Birth due to a combination of slipping ratings, diminishing returns, and because of the tone of the show. When Switched at Birth first premiered, the channel was still known as “ABC Family.” Since rebranding, Freeform has tried to promote edgier content.
In my opinion, that rebranding is the reason for the long delay between Switched at Birth‘s fourth and fifth seasons: Freeform didn’t know where the show fit. In addition, cast member contract options often expire after five seasons. A series renewal would probably require a new round of negotiations and hence, more money. Finally, Switched at Birth ran long enough to produce a good sized syndication package. All that said, while I’ve had my eye on this one for a while, I suspect chowing down on Switched at Birth will induce regret-fueled heartburn. RIP.

I just found this show on netflix and binged watched for the past week. Please dont stop this show now, I am so in love with all the characters, this is such an amazing show. I have no idea why I never found it before now but I am not ready to say goodbye.

I think there should be another season. Season 5 ended with alot of flash backs over the last 5 years and that was awesome. But it didnt give closure. Its a good way to end if theres gonna be more but if thats truly the end for SAB….there should have been more closure. Do Bay and Travis stay strong? Do Mingo and Daphne evolve into anything serious? How does Carlton grow up? Does Emmett find what hes looking for in Japan? Too many questions to juat bail now!

Please do another season! I LOVE Switched At Birth! There’s so many things happening in the show to end it! Bay and Travis whats going to happen with them? What does bay want Emmett to do? Toby has a kid! What’s Daphne going to do? It can’t end!!
Dude for real they need to make another season maybe even 3 more seasons! This is a really great show. It can’t end now, there are so many ways this story can go. There are so many questions that will be asked, like, ” what’ll happen with bay and Travis?” ” what crazy thing does bay want Emmett to do?” There are so many. And now emmett’s mom is staying? plsese do a other season my mother loves the show and this show has every thing in it and the plot is a amzing and I want to see how every thing plays out you have put in so much depth in the show and it mingles with the differces commutiys it will be nice to see the carcters all growen up in the next season
