After a disappointing run, ABC has decided to prematurely end the forgotten’s freshman season. Is the Christian Slater TV show being cancelled?
Airing on ABC, the forgotten follows a group of talented civilians who work together to find missing persons once the police have reached a dead end. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains.
The show debuted on September 22nd and attracted a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.54 million viewers. It lost a large percentage of its lead-in and 12% tuned out before the episode was over. The second installment of the forgotten fell significantly and the rest of the season has been averaging just a 1.7 rating 6.49 million viewers.
Last week, ABC announced that they were preempting the March 16th installment of the forgotten in favor of a FlashForward recap show. Now, they’re pulling the March 23rd episode as well. Next week’s installment, “Donovan Doe,” is the episode that was originally scheduled for the 23rd and may well wrap up the season.
Considering the poor ratings, the series is very likely to be cancelled and won’t be back for season two. It also doesn’t seem likely that they’ll get around to airing the remaining two episodes anytime soon, if at all.
What do you think? Should ABC find a way to air the remaining two episodes? Should the series be cancelled? Where did the forgotten go wrong?

I didn’t watch the show when it first premiered. I got into it one night when there was a rerun on another network. Since then I have looked forward to it each week. I hope that ABC will give it another shot. I think it has been getting better in reent weeks.
I LOVE the forgotten. It is the best show on…PLEASE keep it!
You know what Networks, you really have to get with the times!!!! 18-49 yr olds most likely TIVO or DVR shows which are not reflected in ratings!!! I do! So listen to the fans that actually watch your shows NOT the antiquated Neilsen ratings system!
I am tired of TV execs canceling shows because the younger demographic can’t be bothered to pay attention for more than 2 seconds. Reality TV, in general, sucks. Please give us something else!! Canceled shows that were great (and didn’t last) and that I still miss and will miss: the forgotten – and don’t tell me after that last episode that they’re not ending show. The Dollhouse The Philanthropist Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles Jericho — really, really upset about this one!! Joan of Arcadia Veronica Mars And I know these are from quite awhile back, but this just shows how… Read more »
the show is one of the best on ABC. i watch every episode.the show has lots of potential, if they would give it a chance. it is hard just to fiquire out which weeks it is being aired. i really hate to see it cancelled.
This show is a true gem. Not oly does it realistically shed light on the issue of unsolved and unidentified victims, it also shows that everyone can make a difference. I really want it to survive.
We watch The Forgotten as a family and really like it. It’s very disappointing to get into a show and have it canceled. Seems like it happens way too often.
What a shame. We watch the forgotten every week – it’s feel good, smart TV and there’s just not enough of that around these days.
My family and I certainly hope the show comes back for a second season!!
The Forgotten should not be cancelled!! This is a great show, much better than alot of the crap that we have running on TV nowadays. I hope ABC is smart and keeps the show going.
I think they should not cancel the show. Thanks to the show, it is making people aware of the real stories out there. The real people who have been searching for their lost loved ones. I did not realize how many people were actually missing or how many Jane and john does are out there until i watched the show and went to the website. I am amazed at how many lives were lost and yet no one has come forward to give them a name. That is the saddest thing to me dying without a name. I love this… Read more »
As a member of the over 50 group – I like shows that make me think and The Forgotten did just that. There wasn’t alot of violence and blood and gore – just a good story line that made me watch to see how it ends. Good television without the bed hopping and violence of alot of shows – please leave some tv that us older folks can enjoy.
Sad, that you get a show, that keeps you interested and tells you about the lives of the missing….don’t take off the air, and put some dumb reality show on there…like who is kissing who and how much will it hurt the family…. all t.v is reality nice to have something to keep our interest.
I like the idea behind the show, it’s different then the regular cop/detective dramas on TV right now but the acting sucks, there is only two good actors on the show and that’s actress Michelle Borth and actor Christan Slater so I say recast and try again at a later date.
Even ABC cancels good shows. Yeah it sucks a lot. I know this is just stupid, but i’m considering not watching new shows anymore or wait for shows to get into like the 6th season. I mean really WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The forgotten has a lot of potential. More on the back stories of the main characters. Christian Slater always does a good job. If ABC would give shows more of a chance and not pull them or pre-empt them. You go to watch the program and it is not there. I have seen ABC do this before.
