Lifetime’s new show The Lottery is focused on the survival of the human race. But, will this show survive to see a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
The Lottery takes place in the year 2025 when our planet is in the midst of a fertility crisis. Women can no longer bear children and the human race faces extinction. After years of research researchers have been able to fertilize 100 eggs and a lottery is held to determine who can carry them to term. The cast of this thriller includes Marley Shelton, Martin Donovan, Yul Vasquez, Athena Karkanis, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay, and Shelley Conn.
The series debuted on July 20th to 1.08 million viewers with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In week two, viewership dropped 33% but then regained some ground in week three. The most recent episode attracted just 620,000 viewers.
Because Lifetime has so few original scripted series, it’s difficult to know when they consider a series a failure. However, these numbers are quite low — about half of what Witches of East End has been pulling in. Drop Dead Diva was cancelled with much better numbers.
While Lifetime could choose to renew The Lottery for a second season, unless the ratings improve, it’s looking likely that it will be cancelled instead.
But, what do you think? Should The Lottery be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Please renew the Lottery!! I love this show and just got a couple of friends to watch it and now they love it!! It needs more advertising because I basically just stumbled on it!! Love this show!!
Renew The Lottery please! It is an excellent and very different show! I love it.
Please renew it! The Lottery is a great show! I love it and so does my husband! We watch it and a few other shows every Sunday night!. I definitely don’t think canceling the series would be a good thing. If more people knew about it and watched it once then they’d be hooked too! Advertisement just needs to be a little better, but as far as the series itself, it’s awesome!
Love it, please renew it.
I think this is an excellent series. As a retired school teacher who has seen food addition ws an insecticides affect children (do the research, many more children in Sp Ed now than 30 years ago ( yes more pop yet…..) AND couples r having trouble concieving sooooo. Such a shame to cancel this show….. I think u didn’t give it enough PR
The Lottery is an excellent program with an intriguing premise that deserves to be renewed for a second season. With today’s new advances in IVF , surrogacy issues , egg freezing and women delaying having children until after 35 it is a topical show. The one suggestion I have is that since this show is set in the future, there should be more of an investment in making the settings appear more futuristic. All round excellent acting by mostly up and coming actors.
The premise is great, but I have missed a couple of episodes. It is not on demand, so I can’t catch up and they don’t replay any of the episodes.
Good series. Has great potential. Could be as good as Walking Dead, The Last Ship, The Strain, and Falling Skies. Need to shorten type and time of commercials. Also pick less competitive night for viewing until followers established.
Love it, don’t cancell, I don’t think the show was advertise enough, a lot of TV watchers don’t know about it
Yes, by all means, renew it. I hate when you get invested in a show and they drop it w/out sewing up all the loose ends.
I love this show. I hope they don’t cancel it. The 1st episode got me hooked and now I ant stop watching it. If they do cancel it I hope they make a good ending!
The Lottery is a good show
I normally would never watch wife time but this show is worth it. I think they are trying to get a different audience. That being said this show on a network aimed at a more general public and this show is kept on period.
I have enjoyed this show… Didn’t really want to find another show to watch… but watched it once and hooked. Bring it back for a new season.
I hope they give it a shot. I think it’s just getting to the interesting parts and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes. Just my opinion.
