Lifetime’s new show The Lottery is focused on the survival of the human race. But, will this show survive to see a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
The Lottery takes place in the year 2025 when our planet is in the midst of a fertility crisis. Women can no longer bear children and the human race faces extinction. After years of research researchers have been able to fertilize 100 eggs and a lottery is held to determine who can carry them to term. The cast of this thriller includes Marley Shelton, Martin Donovan, Yul Vasquez, Athena Karkanis, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay, and Shelley Conn.
The series debuted on July 20th to 1.08 million viewers with a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In week two, viewership dropped 33% but then regained some ground in week three. The most recent episode attracted just 620,000 viewers.
Because Lifetime has so few original scripted series, it’s difficult to know when they consider a series a failure. However, these numbers are quite low — about half of what Witches of East End has been pulling in. Drop Dead Diva was cancelled with much better numbers.
While Lifetime could choose to renew The Lottery for a second season, unless the ratings improve, it’s looking likely that it will be cancelled instead.
But, what do you think? Should The Lottery be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Best show I’ve seen renew please!!!!
I love it! I hope we have a second season
I truly believe this series has immense merit and,the potential for ” Army Wives ” success! The cast was chosen well, the story extremely well written and, deserves the right to grow in it’s own right. A story like this takes awhile to unfold. Outcomes will be slow, unpredictable, nail biting but, thrilling! Especially when things do come to the proverbial head! Also, Lifetime has not marketed it as well as other shows. I expect them to both realize and, fix their problem. Also, this show is based, I believe, on the book-turned-movie, Children of Men! Bear that in mind… Read more »
Please renew this show; nice balance of acidity and drama.
I think Lottery is a great show with good writers! I hope they renew for another season, I’ll be very disappointed if it gets cancelled.
It seems no shows are given any time to gain momentum before they are cancelled. How can these idiots in charge make decisions so quickly? TV shows have become like the movies, if they don’t make multi-millions of dollars for someone quickly they have to be cancelled quickly. I would like to keep watching the Lottery as it is interesting, different, and written with thought instead of just “crap” I can only hope this one survives.
I’m shocked it’s not doing really well. It has everything anybody could want in a show. It’s probably because so many shows are on Sunday night. I watch it, but I also watch my other 8 other sunday night shows… (Really, the rest of the week there’s not much to watch but they all show up on Sunday!) Regardless, The Lottery is always one of the first ones I watch because it’s one of my favorites.
It’s way better than the Strain. RENEW
The show is really building the suspense . It took a few shows to draw me in peak my interest. Now it is one of my favorite shows. Give it a little more time to gather a devoted audience .
I hope they renew s
T
this sow. Very interesting. Please renew for another season
I agree with Nakisha, they didn’t promote this very well. This is the kind of show that could do great if more people knew about it, dystopian future stories are all the rage right now. I am enjoying the show immensely, and if Lifetime doesn’t feel like paying for a second season they should at least give the writers/producers enough time to wrap things up for the fans. I HATE it when I invest in a show and we’re left hanging with no resolution because the network didn’t like the ratings. That’s why I don’t watch Fox anymore. 😛
Keep it running. It is so good and unique. Not like some shows today
Totally agree with you. I believe most intelligent Americans can’t stand Unreality TV anymore. Most people with any sense know it is all completely scripted and staged for the most dramatic results and ratings. Please… give me a great thought provoking drama any day.
I think the key phrase in your comment is “intelligent Americans.” There seem to be precious few of those anymore, judging from “reality” TV ratings. If America was really full of intelligent people, there is no way Duck Dynasty or Honey Boo-Boo could exist. It is precisely because there is a dearth of intelligent viewers that well-written, thoughtful shows get low ratings.
keep it going. I like the show.
Keep it running.
Love this show. Does need more advertising. I hope it’s renewed. I need something to watch on lifetime. They cancelled army wives and the client list.
