It seems fitting that Jeff Daniels, who plays anchor Will McAvoy, would report the news that The Newsroom has been renewed for a third season. The star tweeted, “It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3.” HBO hasn’t issued a statement yet.
Though it’s not a big ratings hit for HBO, the renewal doesn’t come as a surprise. The drama fits well with HBO’s brand, boasts an impressive cast and crew, and often has critics and viewers buzzing.
What’s more, the pay-for-view channel’s president, Michael Lombardo, said in July that he expected the show to return.
The renewal comes following HBO’s announcment that next season will be the end of their second-biggest show, True Blood.
Season two of The Newsroom is currently airing and averaging 1.8 million viewers for initial airings. The season finale, the conclusion of a two-parter, will air on Sunday, September 15th.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear The Newsroom is returning? Is it a “must watch” show for you?
Love the show, the cast, the topics. Smart, funny, true. As usual my dreams conflict with reality and Aaron Sorkin provides the link!
Thank goodness it is coming back. It’s the only reason my husband and I subscribe to JOB.
My husband and I love this show! Please let it return for a third season.
